Orphan Adoption Event

Cynthia at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework has come up with a brilliant idea.  Brilliant...if you can bear to part (um that might be moi) with an old, dusty WIP or maybe it's not even at that stage yet, then add your link to her Orphan Adoption Event!  Even if you don't have an orphan to link up (then my hat is off to you, whoa!) you can still 'bid' on those that are up for adoption.

Enter one of my WIPs, not really at that stage yet!

Several years ago, a very good friend of mine and I had the brilliant idea to buy enough of this rather cool marbled fabric to make several of these Magic Tiles quilts and sell them.

We often shared patterns back then, and somehow, I usually ended up with the photocopy...

We each made a couple quilts.  And?  We never sold a one! So our brilliant idea kind of got snuffed out, and the squares we cut ready to assemble in more quilts....yeah, got nuttin'... might have another set languishing...

Anyhow, this project consists of twelve 14" squares plus about a metre of black "grout" fabric, and the pattern.  There is no fabric to make the inner border.  Don't feel obligated to make this pattern!

I would like the person to donate the finished quilt to a charity.

Since I live in Canada, and postage is often ridiculous, (don't get me started), I will ship this free to anyone within the continental US or within Canada. I do hope that you would sew it up in a timely manner (unlike the giver of said project, ha) and I'd love it if you posted about it if you are a blogger, and let me know when you do! Maybe you'll inspire me to do something with the second set.

How do you bid on this?

Simply leave me a comment telling me what charity you would sew it for.  If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave your email within your comment so I can contact you.  If you would rather email me personally regarding the charity you would sew this for, then you can contact me at ephdra (at) gmail (dot) com

I will leave this open until mid-week, so June 10 at midnight EST.  If there are loads of takers, I will use the random number generator to make the final call. I will include emails in the draw, no worries!

Check out some of the other projects up for grabs!  Cute cat blocks, Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, to name a few, and tempt you...

  1. I would love to have those beautiful fabrics for my charity Covered in Love (http://katandcatquilts.blogspot.com/p/covered-in-love.html) which gives comfort quilts to the families of patients who pass away in the hospital where I work.

  3. Your orphans would be put to good use in a few quilts for Project Linus. My sewing group does a fundraiser every year, and I do my own separately, to earn funds to support our quilting efforts for Linus, and any donations are quickly put to good use. Last year the dozen of us made over 200 quilts and blankets for Project Linus, and are on track this year to exceed that as long as we can get the materials! Your lovely fabric would certainly be appreciated, and quickly used.

  8. These squares would be great for "fiddler" quilts for the Alzheimer's home. Bright, easy to see fabrics are great for these. That's what I would do with them.

  9. I would make this for ALS silent auction! The colors are fairly neutralish and could be for a man!

  11. I quilt for our local Ronald McDonald House, and I think this would be a great quilt for the older teens, both those who are patients and those who accompany siblings who are hospitalized.

  12. Hey Sandra! I'm not "bidding" since I have to a kit up for adoption too. Just wanted to say "You Go Girl!" Someone is sure going to be a lucky winner!

  13. I would make this quilt for a young mother whose house was recently flooded out. I am making flannel quilts for her two toddlers, but think she needs some TLC too. Insurance isn't covering everything and she's has a lot on her plate at the moment.

  22. Don't include me in the random choice of a winner as I can't promise to get this out in a timely manner with all the projects I already have going. Just wanted to say what a great fabric group that is. Thanks for linking to WIPs Be Gone!

I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, as they make my day! I answer every one by personal email. :-) Unless... you are a "no-reply" blogger, which can occur for a few reasons. You can get around that by writing out your email within your comment so that I can answer you.
