Update on Projects and OMG

As you know by now, I really enjoy sharing with you 'the process', and reading about that very thing on others' blogs. Here are some of my ongoing projects, as well as my OMG for September, which is this quilt in progress:
Please note: these are all reds: shades, tints, hues, so they go from bright red, to burgundies to pinks, corals
...which I hope to have the centre section complete (that's 156 6" blocks with sashing and cornerstones) by the end of the month. I'm putting them together in the order in which they were released, with my six blocks interspersed. I'll highlight those once the quilt centre is complete. Yes, there are borders! It may very well end up being my biggest quilt to date. I may have to do a final piece count...

This is my 150 Canadian Women quilt, a quilt along I did with Kat of Next Step Quilt Designs from December 2016 through October 2017. My first post is here, December 6, 2016, and my last is here, January 3, 2018. Canada celebrated her sesquicentennial July 1, 2017, and this was the project, three blocks per week for a total of 150. For this layout you needed to make six more, which I did, for a total of 156 (12 X 13 blocks layout). I have the first six rows sewn together, and row 7 is done as well, and pinned on the design wall. I found sewing the rows into groups of three worked well, and then I sewed the group of three rows to make the group of six. This is what I plan to do for the bottom half. Whether row 7 will get sewn to rows 1-6 or start the bottom section of rows 7-13, I haven't decided! The bulk of the quilt has been sewn on my Featherweights, 1951 Tillie, and 1947 Billie. I am in LOVE, mad crazy effervescing love with this quilt. It's huge. Can you see the tiny cornerstones that finish at 1"?! It's a plaid-type print from the 'With Glowing Hearts' line by Moda. Perfection!

The RSC colour of the month is dark blue. I didn't even have to cut any 2.5" squares! Blue is the largest section in my 2.5" squares tray, and finding 32 was a snap! Here are my two, done already!
Sunshine and shadow pics this am, oh how I love these blues!

The Fireburst mystery July step with Tish, The Madd Quilter, was creating these four blocks:

and for August these four:
Well oops it was supposed to be done for this post, like yesterday, but I was buried in housework (long overdue egad) and computer work yesterday.... I'll update this later today!

I'm working on my Island Batik Challenge for September which is making a quilt with stars. Happy Dance! Stars are hands down my all-time favourite block. The house or school house block is my very close second. I'm using these fabrics, and the pattern involves paper-piecing. It's Cindy's newest pattern at Stitchin at Home.
Just love turquoise and purples together! Isn't Island Batik generous with yardage? I mean I know it has to last for the next 5 months of the challenges, but wow still. I love the texture and depth in these fabrics, especially that bottom one, right?

Finally, I wanted to share a winning I got last week, this snowglobe kit to make from Dione, at Clever Chameleon. That link takes you to her tutorial. She has a ton of great tutorials and information, period, on her blog!
In Australia giveaways are a bit tricky, but IMHO, also rather smart. You need to DO something to win goods, like a fair trade. So Dione asked us to tell us which of her snow globes we'd like to win, and why. She told us to make our comment count, so I wrote her a poem, and won the kit! I hope to make one with Brady when he comes for his visit at the end of the month! Thank you so much Dione!

  6. Where to start? I loved seeing your Canadian women blocks as you made them, but seeing them come together into a quilt top is even better. I can't wait to see all of them together. Love your dark blue blocks. Love your Island Batik fabrics even more. Cindy's latest pattern is wonderful and I think it will look spectacular in this range of colors.

  7. Aha, I read your poem, and Dione is a brilliant quilter, writer of Beary blogs, and so much more. Well done, all the way from just across the ditch from NZ!!! And for Brady, that should be with you in time as well. Think it has left NZ now , with Hugh's cousin, She will post it when they get to her sister's place.
