A Roll of the Dice - Baby Quilt Beauties

It's the final day of the pattern launch for A Roll of the Dice and today you get to see no less than five baby quilts. Today is the last day to grab the pattern for 30% off. That means for just CA$7.70 you can have a pattern with instructions for three projects: a baby quilt, a bed runner and a cushion/pillow. Without further ado, here is my baby quilt, done in warm tones.

It's on my design wall, being blocked. I plan to take a few more glamour shots tomorrow. The colours are pretty true here. Four of the five dice blocks, from two to five, are inside Evening Star blocks, with dice block one in the centre of a Rolling Stone block (get the rolling connection?) which is, in turn, the centre of the large Ohio Star. I think we all know how much I love layers in quilts!

After taking a fair bit of time to quilt Pop Star, which is currently patiently awaiting her binding, I had planned to do an all-over meander for this quilt. So, Pop Star got yanked off Avril, my longarm, the moment she was done quilting, spread on our bed to admire, and (of course) for Bella to test it for napping, and is now folded out of cat reach, and, as I said, waiting. Why? Because I had to get this one quilted up and bound in short order!

How's that for an all-over meander?! Well, sheesh, that white space was just begging for a wee bit of custom ruler work. I stitched in the ditch around each of the nine blocks, as well as in the seams of the large Ohio Star. It just makes for a crisper quilt. Check out these two before SITD and after shots:

See how the burgundy/pink seam in he foreground is a bit wavy or bubbly?

Now it's lying nice and flat, just like its opposing seams!

Here is a shot in the after-supper sun, pre-binding, to show the texture, mmm. Simple lines 1/2" apart went into the vanilla border.

I used a pale yellow Essential cotton thread over all of the quilt except for the vanilla fabric where I used a white Coats and Clark cotton.

Here is the back, a print from Cherry Guidry's "Words to Quilt By" line. It has swirls all over it in a pale yellow, very soft.

A huge thank you to Benartex Designer Fabrics who supplied the fabrics, and to Hobbs Batting, who supplied the wonderful 80/20 cotton/wool batting.

Four people chose to make the baby quilt. In alphabetical order, we have...

Anja of Anja Quilts, despite living in a hotel for the past several months while her damaged house gets put back together, put together this glowing beauty.
I see sunsets, hibiscus and frangipani...just WOW!

Carol of Quilt Schmilt made this breathtaking one.
I see the ocean and trees and calm...my happy place for sure!

Marty @_suryasmiles fussy cut and with incredible attention to detail, has made this adorable quilt, destined for a darling 2-year-old.

Look at that fabric detail, and those cheery colours!

Can you even?? We all know the soft spot I have for pibbles.

Last but certainly not least, is Tish's quilt! Yes! Tish of The Madd Quilter. We happened to text the evening that I'd sent out the email to my guinea pigs, known as a 'mmmuddle' (if you read Rose's post on Wednesday - link below) asking if anyone wanted to make one of the projects, and when Tish said she was feeling her sew-jo coming back, I casually asked if she felt like joining in with this new pattern launch and she said yes!

I love how her large Ohio Star is so subtle!

When Rose saw my colour scheme for my quilt, she sent me this photo

So this one is now officially named Sherbet Stars. 😍

In case you missed any of the previous project posts, here they are:

I am so grateful to these wonderful quilters, who I consider good friends. I am so grateful that they said yes to making something from this pattern, taking time out of their lives to sew for me, to help promote the new release, and so grateful that they did it so well! I am just thrilled with how well the past three days have gone. I also appreciate the careful tech-editing Yvonne of Quilting Jet Girl did for me once again! She has a new pattern releasing this coming week, on a certain auspicious day, June 15. 😉 What is auspicious about that, some of you may be wondering? Regular readers know: t's the birthday of a famous Canadian-- my dad. The Pop Star annual QAL final parade linky party opens that day here on the blog as usual, and I cannot wait!

Remember, the pattern sale ends tonight! Head to SandraJaneQuilts and snag your copy.

  8. Tish is back?!! I haven't seen anything from her in ages - I need to visit right away. Your mmmuddle did such a nice job, Sandra! Sherbet Stars is just the perfect name. Anja's top is amazingly beautiful especially considering all the distractions she's had in her life lately. Marty's fun doggies are so cute, and Carol's pretty gray star is so subtle and yet it's not to be missed. Great job by all! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
