The Light Within Pattern Release

It gives me great pleasure to release another pattern, one that was published in Make Modern issue #42. (affiliate link) Like my first publication in MM, this one uses just one block. Rotating it and colouring a few of the blocks slightly differently results in the illusion of four on-point blocks and a centre glowing star, which led to the quilt's name, The Light Within.

This is a beginner pattern, consisting of squares, rectangles and HSTs. I love the diagonal movement across the quilt, and how the stars kind of twinkle in and out as you realize there are nine of them!

This one of the blocks in the 150 Canadian Women quilt I made in 2017/18. A few of my quilt designs have evolved from making those blocks! I guess that speaks to the value of making sampler or block of the month quilts: it exposes you to a lot of different blocks.

Because this is available in Make Modern issue #42, and people can still easily go and buy that issue, I wanted to include a second quilt using the block, so a table centre piece that could also be a wallhanging is included in the pattern.

It uses Pat Sloan's new line for Benartex Designer Fabrics, 'Bird Song'. It's such a pretty line! I can't wait to get my hands on this fabric; due to vacation time in the fabric request department, it has been delayed a few weeks.

With some eager-beaver Christmas quilters starting their Christmas sewing, I mocked up the small quilt version in Amanda Murphy's newest line, 'Holiday & Winter Jewels'. It's the line I used for Pop Star (see sidebar for the turquoise and lavender side of the line).
So festive!

The pattern is on sale all week for 30% off in my Etsy shop, SandraJaneQuilts.  Thank you to Yvonne of Quilting JetGirl for tech-editing.😁

If you wouldn't mind pinning it on your Pinterest page of quilts, I would greatly appreciate it as that helps get the word out. You can pin it directly from this blog post! Thank you so much.

  5. Oh that is beautiful - I wonder how I missed it in Make Modern. Mind you I think there have been a few issues that for one reason or another I haven't read. I know they are there though :-)
