I worked hard to include this third version of Lyra in my newest pattern, and then I had a DrEAMi—Drop Everything And Make It—moment and pulled fabrics and looked at the logo colours and adjusted and cut and sewed…
I’ve named this version Artemis, after the recent orbit of the moon by the Artemis II expedition. It is one of three designs within the Lyra quilt pattern. Lyra, the original quilt, with all her layers of stars, was named after the Lyra constellation. I had asked Rose if she wanted to make the new design (which she did, in a flash) and upon subsequent email conversations where I had shown her the second design with the five stars floating against a moon or sun backdrop, she had said it would be a good tribute to Artemis II, in the Artemis logo colours. Brilliant.
That ignited a spark within me. Back to EQ8 I went, which is when I had another epiphany: take out the centre star so the moon is even more apparent, and then it hit me: four stars in the quilt for the four astronauts!
Now to find a suitable backing and quilt it up! Oh and get Friday’s post ready to go. We will be making the spiky star points this week.

What a fun tribute to the Artemis expedition! I think I heard your squeal way here in WI. LOL! Seriously, love your idea and your quick work amazes me. Sheila in WI
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love how this came together. Four stars for four astronauts and one large moon? Yes, please!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is awesome, Sandra! I love this new view of what your pattern can do. I'm already in the midst of the original design, but I'm going to have to remember this. My current version is just working from stash, but for this one I would look for some special fabrics. Now you've got me thinking!
ReplyDeleteI've been out of the loop for a few weeks (travel!) and am catching up on my reading. I love your Lyra designs, Sandra - it seems to be a very inspiring pattern!
ReplyDeleteI like this version too!! The Moon is so cool!
ReplyDeleteThis is spectacular, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI loved the original Lyra, but I love the affect the moon has in Artemis, I just need an appliqued Canadian flag or Maple leaf in the center of one of those stars - it doesn't need to be prominent, just a special nod to Jeremy Hansen. It looks lovely without it too, just feeling like I need to push our independence. Brilliant job in bringing it to life so quickly, Sandra! So many wonderful ideas spinning around in your brain, thanks for sharing. Take care, D.
