The sashing pieces will go together in a jiffy. Then it's basically a 9-patch layout with borders. But I'm a bit ahead of myself.
1. Gather four Fabric A 5 ½" squares, four Fabric A/BG spiky star units, and four Fabric A/D spiky star units. Lay them out as shown, joining them into a row, pressing the seams to the centre square. Make four of these units.
2. Find the BG/Fabric A square in a square unit you made a few weeks ago, and then you have all the parts for the quilt centre. Lay them out as shown.
The quilt centre complete. It should measure 35 ½" square.
3. From the four border fabric WOF strips you cut, cut four that are 35 ½" long, or the width/length of your quilt. Set two aside. Sew the two remaining strips to either side of your quilt centre. Press to the border fabric. Set aside.
4. From the remaining 6 ½" x 3" rectangles of the four border strips, cut eight 2 ½" squares. Cut each of these on the diagonal so that you have 16 triangles.
5. Using the four Fabric B 2 ¼" squares and the 16 border fabric triangles you just cut, follow the SiaS method to make four SiaS. Trim them to measure 3". Sew one to each end of the two remaining border strips you set aside. Press to the border strips. Sew these border units to the top and bottom of your quilt. The quilt should now measure 40 ½".
Fun right?! You now have a month to get a backing together (the nice thing is it fits on a width of fabric), quilt it up and bind it ready to show it off in the parade on June 15, which was my dad's birthday. He would have been 100 had he lived this long!

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the famous Canadian doesn't share his birthday with the infamous American. Unfortunately, my late father-in-law does. Not only was he born on June 14th (which is Flag Day in the US), but he also died on June 14th. I hope to see a lot of fabulous finishes next month.

Looking great...and so much fun. Mine is going with me to our retreat, and the blocks and sashing pieces are all ready to put together. The borders/sq in sq are cut out so it will easily be done. There are few quilt stores near us, but I bought some other fabrics I had and may make a back... we shall see! Fun quilt along and great pattern!
