A New Quilt Top and RSC Yellow Update

Somewhere around mid-July I started a new quilt, one that Dayna had sent a screenshot of and asked if I could make. Out came the graph paper, then came the math, followed by a test block, more math, then a TON of cutting, and, three weeks later, where I sewed nothing but this quilt, I have the top!
On average, one star block took me one day to make. The quilt is big. Lots of white. Pretty dramatic! I’m positively pleased (as punch😉) with all the pretty points. And Dayna loves it, so mission accomplished.

Now to find some white Minky for the backing. Her other request. Here is the original screenshot.

I can see a cushion. A baby quilt in a completely different palette. Yes, as you may recall, I’ve been writing the pattern. In the photo, this looks like a microfleece blanket, very plush, or maybe it’s an antique? Or made to look antique?

To celebrate and clear my quilt palate, so to speak, I made my August Rainbow Scrap Challenge block, which was yellow.

Here they all are at present in no particular order. I will go out on a limb to say that the colour for September will be purple. Whether I stay with nine blocks, perhaps with a border, or go for 12 remains to be seen.

  1. Red/white is always a winning combination. The sashing design really makes this shine. Funny coincidence -- last evening I perused a box of patterns (magazine tear-outs and other printouts) and came across a bunch of Carpenter's Stars and Swoon (remember that craze?).

  2. You can't really go wrong with a classic red and white quilt, and this one is a stunner! I can feel the care you put into designing and piecing it through the photo.

  6. It is lovely and in red and white, just stunning. It makes me think of fireworks, I keep seeing bright metallics on a background of night sky . . . The original definitely looks like a blanket rather than a quilt, and you captured the design perfectly. Dayna may not quilt, but she definitely has the artistic eye.

  7. That quilt is stunning!!! I hope that you're going to release the pattern. Your RSC blocks are great too - and there are so many ways to put them together into a top! Or a runner.... or a pillow.... or... ;-)
