Beothuk Star Prizes

Wow! Eighteen beautiful versions of my design. I am truly honoured that each one of you made this quilt, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Shanawdithit would be so pleased, I am sure of it.

There are eleven sponsors, and a few are offering prizes to more than one winner, so there are a total of fourteen prizes to be had. Each participant will also get the pattern in PDF form. It will soon be for sale in my Etsy shop, but the instructions will remain as for all QALs, here on the blog under the "Quilt Alongs and TBT" tab. All right, drum roll please!

Beothuk Star QAL Final Parade of Finishes

Wow! I am so very excited to see the parade today and all week long of the Beothuk Star QAL quilt finishes. The main page for the QAL is here in case this is your first time visiting. The instructions will remain on the blog forever. I will be putting out a PDF of the pattern to purchase through my Etsy shop. Everyone who has finished a top or quilt will get a copy free.

Designing a quilt is a rush in and of itself, putting together the pattern is work and fun, and publishing the pattern is a little worrying: will people will like it, and/or even make it? When it is well-received, and then made by others, that rush become euphoric, truly. It's akin to seeing your child win an award, in school or in life. These are our quilt babies. I have loved seeing this baby evolve.

                    

Sherbet Stars

I just love this new little quilt, my second rendition of my Beothuk Star pattern and my quilt for my third annual QAL. It is one of the items on my Q2FAL List so I am so happy to have another finish to check off. I also have just loved seeing Beothuk (Bay-uh-tuck) Star quilts pop up all over Instagram. There is a hashtag: #beothukstarqal if you would like to check it out!

This little quilt that finishes at 42" square is a perfect baby quilt, a wallhanging, or even a good-sized table topper. Rainbow Scrap Challenge Progress and Beothuk Star Quilting Ideas

This little owl block, measuring 4.5" finished, is just so adorable I can hardly stand it! It was one of the Tiny Tuesday blocks in March when the colour was green. You can find Sally's tutorial at The Objects of Design, when she was a guest blogger for Angela at so scrappy. I have all my March ones done now, and have started in on February, which was yellow.

Beothuk Star QAL: Second Set of Blocks and a Flimsy

It never gets old seeing a quilt I designed on paper and/or in EQ come to life in fabric. And then... when others make my designs in their own fabrics, and with their own spin on the design, I get even more excited than Rufus with his big yellow ball.

I hope the first eight blocks went together like a breeze; a reward is needed after all those HSTs... (ha! I'm a poet and I didn't even know it!) This week we are making the second set of eight and then sewing them together, adding the border and we will have our flimsy!

So! Are you still with me? Have you cussed me out a little (or a lot) over the past two weeks? Making those HSTs was maybe not so thrilling. However, now we have that out of the way, we are on with the blocks! This week we will make eight, but I have a feeling some of you will not be able to stop with eight...

Beothuk Star Quilt Along - Construction of HSTs and HST Tips

For ease of construction, we are going to make all the HSTs in this step, no complete blocks. In two weeks we will assemble the blocks. I hope you feel free to move around the colours if you're using the kits I curated. There is no need to follow my placement!

I've tried to keep this as clear as possible with four versions going on! Each step is one heading; you simply need to find your 'version' beneath as to what to do. Email me if there are any questions. I found an error in last week's cutting. In Version 2 Fat Quarter Bundle only, I had you cut 16 turquoise squares @ 4" and you only need 12. I have fixed it now. My apologies, but this is good news if you want more turquoise in your quilt, as you will have four extra 4" squares that can be trimmed to 3 1/2" for the cornerstones.

Beothuk Star QAL Cutting

Now that you've gathered your fabrics (or maybe you're like me and waffle and overthink and hem and ha), we are going to cut into them. Just like the requirements for fabric, the cutting thereof varies slightly from version to version.

Beothuk Star QAL Fabric Requirements

Let me just say I am so glad you've joined me! Whether this is the first time or the third time quilting along with one of my designs, I am truly grateful for your presence, for taking the time out of your already-busy quilting life, not to mention personal life, to make something pretty!

This week you will be getting the fabric requirements. There are three ways you can make this quilt, and I guess a fourth: going off entirely in your own direction!

Beothuk Star QAL Introductory Post and List of Sponsors

Welcome! Let the games, I mean quilting begin! This is the official kick-off to my third annual QAL, Beothuk Star. It's a very simple quilt, much like last year's, with colour placement a key feature.

You will find all the instructions needed to make this quilt here on the blog as we progress. At the end of the QAL I will have a PDF pattern which I will give free to those who complete the quilt, as in fully finished useable quilt. The final Linky party will be for all who finish, either a flimsy or a finished quilt.
