Fall Runner

One of the 17 items on my Q3FAL list is making a runner for my Etsy shop. I'm happy to say I've checked it off the list!

Rather in keeping with the theme of 2020 where we've all spent so much more time at home than usual.

I, like many others, like the buffalo plaid look to lots of fall décor I'm seeing and I thought hmm, what if I created my own buffalo plaid pumpkin using 2.5" squares? Fun!
I had some scraps left over from another quilt project that I'm dying to show everyone, but alas, I must wait. The orange, grey and black binding are from Kanvas's 'Color Theory'. I used mostly black, white and grey Island batik scraps with a few extras thrown in for interest.

Straight-line quilting to keep it flat, simple and modern.
I used the H and E from my Shine quilt pattern which you can purchase here. 😇 I then drafted an M.

Here is the back. I used a beautiful cotton challis I've had for some time. When I spied it in my pile of potential backings, I knew it was perfect.

I even remembered my satin label!

You know I love many makers and weights of threads. I pieced this one with black Gütermann polyester and quilted it with Aurifil cotton 30 wt and Exquisite polyester, which has a beautiful sheen.

It looks really good on the island in our kitchen!

It is listed here in my Etsy shop. I have ideas for a few more runners now in my head after making this one. Will there be a pattern? Mebbe...

Two little happy-dance invoking tidbits:
1. I sold a quilt on Etsy! A fall-themed one. (I have three in my shop, well now just two, this one and  this one, which I see has been favourited and is currently sitting in someone's basket...) A lovely person, Sena, bought my Autumn Winds quilt that I made for a Benartex blog hop last year. Within her very kind review, she included the most beautiful photo of it as part of her fall-themed porch display. I want to snuggle right up there. She likes buffalo plaid too! This is an original quilt design of mine, and, a little self-promotion plug: you can purchase the pattern here, or a pink and yellow (great for a baby girl) actual quilt here!

2. You may already know, since I posted it on Instagram, that I finally finished up the pattern for the Bear Paw Dance quilt, which has been renamed 'Waltzing With Bears' thanks to a reader who is a no-reply, jbettyb, so I hope she is reading and sees this. I did thank her back on the original post in the comments. I can't wait to show you the versions of this quilt which my testers are busy creating. Stay tuned! And yes, the pattern will be on sale when it's first released.😉

  1. The Buffalo Plaid looks great for your pumpkin in the runner and it has such a cozy, fall vibe. It's fun to see your sold quilt being used in it's forever home. How wonderful!

  2. Congrats on the Etsy sale. This is a good runner and hope someone snags it quickly!

  3. The runner is very cute! I love the plaid that forms the pumpkin.

  4. This is a smart looking runner, Sandra! Buffalo check has always been a favorite and it really sings as the "O" here. Your ideas are always amazing!

  5. Your little home tablerunner is so cute! The technique of laying out the plaid must be a bit tricky! I may have to try it, now that you have given me an idea! The quilting works well, to make it flat and useable!

  6. Hi Sandra! Great job on the runner. I adore Buffalo plaid and it is very popular. And how exciting about the Etsy sale of your quilt. I can almost hear the Sally Field acceptance speech - you like my quilting, you really like my quilting! And how fabulous that your customer sent you a photo!! SO cool. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Hi! Waving at Brady! Congrats on selling that pretty quilt. So fun that Sena sent you a photo of it in the wild. I'll bet her favorite people cuddle up under it :)

  8. Congratulations on the finish of the table runner and the sale of that lovely quilt. I checked out the others, as well, and think you have such lovely quilts there. Any one who buys one will get a quality product. As for that buffalo check pumpkin, it is great! Love the stem on it and all the colors you used to make it.

  9. Love your Home table runner! Fantastic that you have been able to sell some of your quotes.

    1. Sorry, I meant quilts (not quotes)! Unfortunately, I am an insurance agent and I type quotes a lot.

  10. I love the buffalo plaid in your runner! Congrats on the sale of a quilt in your shop!

  11. I seriously love this table runner. Such a great design and perfect for fall.

  12. Yay for the quilt sale! Love that little Home runner. So many cool quilts, Sandra!

  13. Congrats on the quilt sale! That has to feel good. The table runner is very fun and I bet it goes fast.

  14. Wonderful runner. It’s perfect for this year and your buffalo plaid pumpkin is adorable. Congrats on the quilt sale and thanks for sharing the photo in its wonderful new home 😉

  15. That runner is so cute! I love the buffalo plaid pumpkin :) Congratulations on selling a quilt and finishing up another pattern. You're on a roll!

  16. Hi Sandra, what a cute runner. Congratulations on your sale of the quilt. It looks like it's going to be well loved in its new home :-) Take care.
