Another Santa's Belly Pillow

When Dayna saw my first Santa's Belly cushion, she immediately texted, "I want." So what's a mother to do? Comply with her daughter's wishes of course!

This fun, quick-to-make design is by Kelly at My Quilt Infatuation from back in 2018. Little did I think I'd be making not one, but two of these in the space of about a week!

This one went together even more quickly than the first because instead of doing scrappy improv quilting for the four red corners of Santa's suit, I simply cut four squares of red fabric. Here the two are side by side for comparison.

I quilted it on my Bernina this time too because the piece of batting I had was just big enough for the cushion front to fit. I did the same motifs as on the first one, using the same threads but for the red. I forgot about the variegated one I'd used on my own cushion, and used the same Mettler cotton I'd used to piece it. The backing is a Laurel Burch kitties print I've had in my stash for some time. I've cut up a bunch of these prints, a dog one and a trees one included, to make a couple of comfort quilts. But I digress.

It will be fun for Dayna to pull this out next year for her Christmas décor.

Quilt Stats:
Size: 18" square
Fabric: various from stash
Batting: Pellon Quilter's 100% polyester
Backing: Enchantment by Laurel Burch for Clothworks
Quilted: on my Bernina
Threads: pieced on my Bernina with Mettler cotton; quilted with Mettler cotton, Sulky rayon and Exquisite polyester

I sold three makeup bags during the postal strike, got them delivered, and started three more as leader/enders while making all three belly cushions. So these are now listed in my shop. Have I said how much I love playing with and putting together fabrics?

I have started work again on my cousin's bear paw quilt. It has percolated for a month, so I think I know where it's going and how to get there now. I have also got my head deeper into my laptop than usual as I alter my slideshow presentation to work with a Zoom presentation I'm doing in January. This is another new venture for me, presenting virtually. I taught yoga and taken classes virtually, so it's not entirely a new animal, but a first for doing a slideshow via Zoom.
