DrEAMi #78

Welcome to another month of celebrating those Drop Everything And Make it! projects.

Pinterest

I’ve decided that this will be the last DrEAMi party. It’s been a fun run and has inspired many more ‘chase that squirrel’ projects I’m sure. Six such squirrels await those of us who participate in Project Quilting which begins next week and I can’t wait!

Second last DrEAMi post of the year! Did you have any Drop Everything And Make it moments this past month? Any distractions that wouldn't let go?

Welcome to another month where we share our 'squirrel' projects, those projects that get stuck in our brain and won't rest until we Drop Everything And Make it! Happy Full Hunter's Moon too.🌕 With a partial eclipse to add to the spookiness.👻

An oldie but such a goodie, especially as Halloween is in a few days! I got bitten hard by a squirrel this month.

DrEAMi #75

Welcome to the Drop Everything And Make it! party. I hope you have been captivated/taken away/mesmerized/engulfed by a project or two this summer. Engulfed by...

like this squirrel in a bird feeder! Judy of GrammaJudyB had this in a July gratitude post, and I just thought it perfect to symbolize how some projects totally captivate, occupy, and engulf us!

DrEAMi #74

Welcome to another month of Drop Everything And Make it celebrations. I apologize for this getting out quite late, but I've been on a road trip, keeping Dayna company and helping with the precious cargo of my grand-cat, Harper on the way down to Tennessee where they've relocated. She was an absolute angel of a traveller!
Waiting in a bedroom for those noisy movers to finish

No chipmunks for Harper to keep her eye on in the south, but I am sure she will find something else to interest her at her glass front storm door, once her parents install one! Here she is at Dayna’s new bedroom window, intent on something, probably a bunny, outside.

DrEAMi #73

Welcome to another month of Drop Everything And Make it celebrations. Isn’t the squirrel photo adorable? You can watch the whole few-seconds-long video here. Marty had it in her Instagram stories and I guarantee it will make you smile. I like to think that the dandelion seeds floating around the squirrels head, or like those tantalizing projects that we just have to make. This is where we celebrate those distractions because we know that it is just so good for our creative souls.

DrEAMi! #72

Welcome to this month's DrEAMi party, where we celebrate diversions!

My friend Pat @irishsparksareflying sent me this and it is PERFECT to describe a DrEAMi incident!

DrEAMi #71

Welcome to another Drop Everything And Make it! post, where we celebrate those projects that distract us from our 'supposed-to-be-making' projects, aka as squirrels. We've all been bitten/smitten with a project we see somewhere, be it online, at a guild meeting, in a magazine, and we stop sewing our current project because we

just
have
to make

this thing
right
NOW!
I don't know about you, but these things usually hit me at the worst of times. I'm making a quilt for a reason, a person, and wham! out of left field comes this attractive bauble. Quilter ADD I also call it.

DrEAMi #70

Well typing that number, 70, gave me a bit of a pause. Wow. So I looked back to see just when I started this linky party where we celebrate everything squirrel and shiny and distracting...
January 28, 2017

Six years ago! Somehow it seems longer than that. Not only was it the first DrEAMi, but apparently it was the first time I hosted a linkup! Here is a graphic I used in that post that I just love.

The DrEAMi I talked about in that first post was none other than my house pattern, (see sidebar) which became a cushion cover. If you want to take a little peek back at that post, click here.

DrEAMi #69

I was debating on whether to keep hosting this DrEAMi linkup, when a quote sent to me by Helen at Word Weaver Art made me decide yep, another year won't hurt! She said: "I read a quote once that reminded us that it's good when the muse comes, but you can't always wait on her to begin your task. She has a lousy work ethic." HA!

Well, this linky party is for those projects that the muse brings us that we can't NOT stop until they're made and out of our head! Welcome to the first linky party of 2023. I've had a few this month...

This came about through a DM on my Etsy shop where Eleasha asked if I accepted commissions on my makeup bags. Well yes I did. And poof! Off to the races and away went half of the weekend when I should have been sewing my 'The Art of Riding Thermals' quilt. Ah well. It got done in the end; she chose the colours and fabrics with lots of back and forth-ing, and she loves it, put out a lovely post in her stories. She is using it for her stationery items, and boy, do these hold a ton of pens, erasers, little notebooks, PostIt notes and so forth. So I made a new little video showing just that for the blue one that also grabbed me this month.

DrEAMi! #68

Welcome to the final squirrel party for 2022. I've had fun following my heart and my whims several times over the past year, and I know lots of you have too. After all, that's when sewing is the most fun and gratifying, at least imho. You literally let the muse take you away.

Which it did this month.

It was a bit of a DrEAMi/PHD project that grabbed me. Isn't that an oxymoron? Well not really, because yes, this is an ancient UFO, actually a USO (UnStarted Object), though it was planned right from purchasing the fabulous border print, so it qualifies for a Projects Half Done project. However, it's also a DrEAMi, because I literally have dropped the two other 'should be sewing on' projects to make this quilt!

DrEAMi! #67

Yikes! I totally missed DrEAMi! (Drop Everything And Make it!) in October, and have very nearly missed it again. I have been totally immersed for the past two weeks, and again today, in my upcoming Rainbow Neighbourhood pattern. I am just so very excited to share it. Anyhow, better late than never, though so here we are, ready to show off what distractions grabbed us over the past month (or two since I missed October's). What the heck does Bella have to do with all things squirrel? Well look just beneath the glass of the patio table...see the green 'ball'? That's a black walnut, stashed there by one of our backyard squirrels! Too funny. But wait, I do have an actual squirrel movie for you!

Green Work, Pumpkin Placemats and DrEAMi! #66

Two thirds of the way through writing this post and I looked at the date and realized tomorrow is the last Saturday of September (just WHERE did that month go?) so I need to double up and make this the DrEAMi post too. The pumpkin placemats at the end of the post are actually a Drop Everything And Make it project!

My RSC work is done for this month. Angela asked us to work some more with blue, but I've already done light blue and turquoises, and I'm itching to work with bright green, so that is what I did, making another hot air balloon block. This makes a total of eight.
I plan to make one more for the layout I have in mind. I think it will be a multi-coloured one.

DrEAMi! #65

Welcome to the dog (or dare I say squirrel?) days of summer Drop Everything And Make it party, where we celebrate those squirrels that chase us, or that we chase! I love this adorable albino squirrel named Yarrow who lives at WILD North, @wildnorthab  an animal rehab centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

They've been socializing her, and she met several kids at the Wildlife Festival in Edmonton last weekend. I've had a virtual festival of squirrels in my sewing room over July and August, and I'm looking forward to seeing the herds -correction- a scurry of squirrels aka a dray of squirrels, in your sewing rooms as well! Who knew a group of squirrels was a scurry or a dray, ha!

DrEAMi! #64

Welcome to the June DrEAMi party where we celebrate those 'squirrels' that divert our attention from what we are supposed to be sewing...

This is Ms Bonita from a site I recently learned about from my friend @we10mom Pat in Maryland: @thedailyjames In these beyond-troubling times, these posts have helped to lift my spirits. Check out the turkey vulture posts as well as the squirrel ones, a beautiful hummingbird taking a bath video, gorgeous nature shots...

DrEAMi! #63

Welcome! This is a celebration of distractions. Yes, those Drop Everything And Make it kind of distractions, where you actually drop whatever you should be sewing in order to make this oh-so-cool THING! Some people refer to this phenomenon as a squirrel.
What the heck?
My friend Helen of Word Weaver Art sent me this photo of her 'uninvited guest' who joined them at dinner at a restaurant. That would definitely be a distraction! DrEAMi's often bring us joy. The sheer fun and excitement of diving in, and having to just keep going to see how something turns out is so good for our spirit.

DrEAMi! #62

A great photo for our "Oh look! A squirrel!" party aka DrEAMi which stands for Drop Everything and Make it! was the lead in Kate's of Arts and Socks post:
Read the explanation of her foster kitty Mystique taking this chipmunk's drive-through order by clicking the photo.

Adorable and smart on the part of the foster family and the chipmunk! This month's DrEAMi party where we celebrate those projects we saw and just had to make, like NOW, is a day late because of publishing Step 2 for my Pop Star QAL. It's not too late to join in! The link to all the details is also on my sidebar and may I remind you that there are some sweet prizes?!

DrEAMi! #61

Well good grief, I nearly forgot about writing the post for Drop Everything and Make it! One of those, oh yeah, gotta do that' thoughts that flit into the brain this past week...and flit back out! I mentally set aside the task for more important things like Postcard from Sweden parade of finishes and writing and making the test quilt for my upcoming quilt along...
I loved this little meme so much last month, and several of you did too, so I'm going to use it once again.

I had a few DrEAMis if you count the PQ projects which do tend to become DrEAMis due to the tight deadlines.

DrEAMi #60

Welcome to the February edition of Drop Everything and Make it! I hope you've managed to chase a squirrel or two to brighten your days. I don't know about everyone but February seems to be going on forEVER. January and February are the winter months for us here in Kingsville, Ontario, and I just need them to be over already. It doesn't help that such horrible things have been going on again (or still) or new horrible things like the invasion of Ukraine. I am heartsick, as I'm sure my readers are, at the sad state of affairs in the world. We have gone from all being in this together, and lifting each other up just two years ago, to mistrusting each other and even resorting to heinous unfathomable acts. So, we resort to quilting. It lifts our spirits, helps us feel like we are doing something, anything, to brighten our day or someone else's, and quite literally brightens our sewing spaces with splashes of colour.

Playing with material, aka fabric, saves my sanity more than ever.

DrEAMi #59

I am so glad I usually start the next DrEAMi post after the current linkup closes. It has been a while, hasn't it? I didn't do one in December because I was in Alberta for Christmas, and then the one that should have been published on Saturday, is only going out this evening because Dayna was finally here for a visit! Other than publishing the Postcard from Sweden post, it was all about her for the 2.5 days (and what, 11? workout shirts I hemmed and a sleep mask and pillowcase I fixed...) she was here.

I did have a DrEAMi in December. I got a request from not one, but two of my yoga students to make a bag like mine for a loved one of theirs. Since I was off to Alberta on the 20th, I had to get pretty much right to work.
This is one of the two I made. You can read about them here or click the link in the Linky Party below!
