Temperature Quilt 2021

I've started the year with a very good focus, and I hope it stays that way, but knowing my long history of succumbing to distractions (squirrels), I am sure I will stray. Hopefully not too often, as I do want to get my UFOs and USOs under control. To that end, the last project I started last year was this temperature quilt. 

To qualify for my PHD (Projects Half Done) Quilter certification (ha) any project I start within a calendar year must be completed, unless it's a leader/ender project or it is a quilt where you make a block a day, as this one is, with the last block being made December 31. I made sure to have this one as my January UFO.

What's Up

What have I been up to besides working on my 94 Quilt? Well, a few things, though none of them have given me any finishes for a while.

You know that I've decided to hop on Leanne's @devotedquilter Instagram bandwagon of finishing WIPs during the final 100 days of 2021.

I started with the biggest most time-consuming goal of the three, but tbh, all three are pretty big, time-consuming goals. In for a penny...

OMG and PHD Update...With a Dash of Squirrel

The squirrel is all Nancy's (Grace and Peace Quilting) fault. I've been taken with her gingham quilts over the past couple of months, and knew I wouldn't be able to resist for much longer. Well, as soon as Whimsies was done and blogged, into the blues I went. And didn't stop (yeah, it's a DrEAMi) until I had a top.

This is going to a young boy whose colour preferences and interests I do not know. I thought the planes fabric adds a bit of woven effect to the quilt. There are six different medium blues, a blueish/white Island Batik, and four navy blues. I can definitely see more of these in my future. More on the story of this quilt when it is finished. It will be my OMG for June, and in keeping with its DrEAMi nature, I'm not stopping until it's a done and useable quilt!

Accountability and PhD

For those of you who have followed me for a while, you know how I love lists, and organization, and checkmarks. I have a rather amorphous list of my 2021 Goals that isn't published this year, but that doesn't make me any less accountable, and besides it's in my planner. However, this year instead of the FAL which seems to have fallen apart (correct me if I'm wrong) I've decided to join the PHD  (Projects Half Done)programme with Gail of Quilting Gail.

Basically you must finish 12 UFOs, and you must finish all the projects you start in 2021, so as not to add to the UFO or PHD pile. This is hard for a squirrel-chaser who has the entire canopy of trees this year to explore because of no Island Batik commitments and deadlines! In fact, as of the writing of this post I have completed all my deadlines, even the self-imposed one of updating my sadly neglected Gallery of 2020. The only on-the-horizon deadline is to make a lap-size quilt, (the baby one is done), for my Quilt Along, which begins April 3. It feels actually really good!

Pink Projects Popping up Partout!

"partout' is French for everywhere. It worked for my alliterative title, and since I'm deep in another L'Inspecteur Gamache book, it was à propos. 

So, after a few posts on Instagram on Saturday I took the rest of that day and Sunday and almost all of Monday off that social media platform. It was rather wonderful, and I mean to do that more this year. I don't know if it's the menopausal muddle in my melon or what, but I certainly seem prey to being easily sucked for an hour or more into that vortex. I plunged into my pink scraps and strips with abandon. Ahhh! I petted. I played. It was perfect.

What once was a neatly arranged pile of pink, slowly but steadily erupted into this disarray. What first evolved from the strips were these blocks for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge Project #1.
