So. Much. Going. On.

And it's all wonderful with lots of blue! I've joined in once again with the SAHRR. Here is my post about the centre I'm starting with.

I'm once again participating in the RSC: Rainbow Scrap Challenge with Angela of soscrappy. This month's colour is blue. She didn't specify light or dark so I did light, bright and dark! 

Blue is by far my most plentiful of scraps, be they crumbs, strings, small chunks and under ½ yard pieces. While mulling over what block/quilt I would choose to make, I went to my Pinterest page of rainbow quilts and saw a quilt I'd saved made by one of my favourite follows on Instagram, saija_elina. Mine is going to be similar but not exactly like hers.

Here are the starting six 9-patch blocks which finish at 7 ½". I may make it in a 7x7 grid (~58" square quilt with the border I have in mind) and keep it for myself, or I may go with a 5x5 grid (~41" square quilt) and donate/gift it. Scraps hold so much in the way of emotions and memories for me, and going through my stack of 3" blue squares brought to mind many of the quilts made along with those emotions and memories stitched therein. Thus, I took a mental step back and considered making this year's quilt a keeper rather than a donation. 

I haven't chosen my background for the snowball blocks yet though I will be doing the snowball corners in black for good contrast with the 9-patches. I may wait until I make February's blocks and decide whether I will keep it because I have a couple of 'for me' background yardage pieces in my stash I would use as opposed to one I want to use up, or go all scrappy as she did, OR go radical and use a soft pink or yellow or blue....

Can you tell how much I love standing on the virtual precipice of potential for a prospective project? (lots of p's there, love that) Where will it go? How much fun is it to consider/not even know all the possibilities?!

I finished up the remaining blocks and got the quilt to the flimsy stage of my Trees! quilt I started in December. I bought this pattern quite a few years ago from Crazy Mom Quilts. I just did 12 trees as opposed to 20, because this is still a decent-sized throw: 52" x 60". I've made the backing and intend to quilt it up this weekend before all hell breaks loose on Sunday and next week what with the prompts coming out on Sunday (PQ 17.2) and Wednesday (SAHRR). I love how it has turned out, with some trees very soft and subtle while others have a bit of a pop.

As per usual in the midst of winter, it’s a little more blue than in reality.

Much thanks to my obliging husband for holding up the quilt (and, in his words, threatening his masculinity, tongue in cheek). This is yet another of the USOs (Un-Started Objects) on my Need to Finish List, so I am super-glad that it is nearing the finish line!
