Postcard from Sweden Quilt Along

This is one of the first free patterns that I downloaded from the now-defunct Craftsy, a bright, cheery, geometric design that has your eye roving all over the quilt.
Postcard from Sweden designed and made by Kelly Liddle of Jeli Quilts - used with permission

Last year Myra at Busy Hands Quilts ran a quilt along to make this quilt, breaking up the construction process into steps over the course of several weeks, and presto! a finished quilt before you know it, fitted in amongst your other projects.  I wasn't able to participate last year, but a few of my friends and I were bemoaning that fact, and I said, "Well in a few months, let's do our own quilt along."

So we are.  I'm hosting. Helen of Midget Gem Quilts is in. Would you like to join? Absolutely no deadlines, just guidelines, and perhaps a draw for a prize at the end for finished quilts or tops, which might help get my butt in gear to get a couple more of my patterns published and in my Etsy shop, ha! More on that later; the main prize is you get that quilt made, right?

Here are the dates we've agreed upon:

  • February 14 - Step 1: Gather your fabrics, cut your HSTs, and pair them.
  • February 28 - Step 2: Make the HSTs; press and trim. Progress link up for HSTs step.
  • March 14 - Step 3: Assemble top. Progress link up for sewing the HSTs.
  • March 28 - Link Up for finished flimsy
  • April 18 - finished quilts or tops parade. Final link up and draw for prizes!

Pretty low-key, right?

Hope you'll consider joining us!

  1. This is such a pretty quilt. A friend of mine made one a year or so ago and I helped her do the final layout of the HSTs. I have a lot of batiks basking in the closet. Maybe I'll give this a try for myself.

  2. I am so happy our project is moving forward. This is such a vibrant quilt I've wanted to make when it was love at first sight. While I said I wasn't starting another quiltalong, this one is more of a continuance from last year. My fabric is long washed and ready, and I hope other people join our color-filled venture!

  3. I loved that quilt the first time I saw it. Considered buying a kit but then didn't. I'll probably never make it since I have no business buying any more fabric (trying to purge here!). Can't wait to see all the finished quilts!

  4. I am on the fence with this one. I don't want to buy more fabric, I'm trying to use my stash. I wonder how prints would work?

  5. I would love to join in, but have so many unfinished tops, and a wedding to go to, will keep it mind though. Those bright colours sing.

  6. Low key and a great quilt and QAL...next time. I think I am just at a nice point with commitments and want to keep it that way. Do love it though....

  9. Oh, I am so tempted, but just committed myself to try something else, and I have to see how that goes. I did download the pattern though. I have loved the quilt since I first saw it on the Blogger's Quilt Festival. I will definitely be an enthusiastic observer.

  10. Have fun. Had I not participated with Myra, I would be making one with you.

  11. This quilt has always been one of my favorites, Sandra! I participated in Myra's quilt along last year and finished the top. I haven't taken any more steps to finish it, but this might be the kick I need! Someone above asked about using prints and I have seen one using all prints...it was just as lovely!

  12. I want to join for sure! I have had this pattern set aside for quite awhile--my only hold up may be gathering the right fabrics...Just check Easy and there is a kit for a decent price. Count me in!

  13. I am also tempted. I love this quilt but i may be overextended around then. What a great idea though. I'll mull this over and see how it goes.

  15. My eye certainly roved all over it - wondering whether I had enough solids in my stack to join in. I think I can, I think I can...

  16. I have always loved this particular quilt and really really want one. The colors are wonderful! I have just got too many projects started and need to get some of them finished before I start anything else new. :(

  17. Postcard from Sweden was one of the first downloads I did once I found Craftsy. I didn't realize you were the designer. I guess I should pay more attention to those things. I might play along if I can go scrappy. The new projects allowed this year have to use stash or scraps.

  18. I have wanted to make this quilt for a long time. I wanted to sew along with Mari last year but the timing was off due to other projects that needed to be done. I just downloaded the pattern. I'm in! Do I have fabric?? No, but that has never stopped me before!! What's one more QAL??

  21. Oh no, you've gone and done it now! I wasn't supposed to be starting anything else but I have wanted to do this for ages, I just ordered all the fabrics, SCREAM!!! I had to substitute four of them but I'm surety will blend in just the same. I just hope I have time to keep up with my secret sewing (top now finished). Oh well, at least I will get a lovely quilt out of it.
