I'm Back and Back at it!

Pretty much what my husband said when he realized I would be up at 5:30 on Thursday, the morning after we arrived home to teach yoga! All good. I love my life. It is nice to get away and be warm, but it is lovely to be back home. Here is what I gazed at one of the ten days we spent in the Sarasota and Port Charlotte areas of Florida:

And here is my view on my dog walk Thursday morning:

Awesome colours, sounds, sparkles, both! Head on in to see what Lake Erie looked like Saturday morning after two pretty cold nights!

I took a little video so you could both see and hear the mushy water with its oh-so-cool patterns and sparkles, and sounds.

The next month is going to be hopping-busy,  beginning with my turn on a blog hop, ha! Didn't originally intend that little connection, ha! It's Island Batik's first of four hops this year, and my turn is February 25. Here is where I am as of Saturday.

You may have been seeing Log Cabin quilts popping up and that is because that is our theme. I'm doing a quarter Log Cabin block with a wee bit of a 3D layer to it, so hope to see you back on the 25th for the reveal. I am just so over the heels in love with this line, Prairie Skies!

Grace, my newest pattern, is still on at the introductory price of just $8CA in my Etsy shop. In case you are one of the lovely peeps who have this in their basket, just a gentle reminder that you may want to grab it by mid-week, when I set it to its regular price. Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl did the tech editing, and it was truly a rewarding and educational experience, and has made for a much better pattern.
See below for fabric I am thinking of using to remake Grace. One fat eighth is all you need per large heart and a 5" x 13" piece for the small ones, so a stack of 10" squares would work for a scrappy look.

One last important note that I nearly missed myself, is that bluprint (affiliate link there and ahead) is having a flash sale for only 72 hours of everything, yep everything at 50% off. On their previous sale of this kind I bought this kit:

which is destined for our bed in our new bedroom upstairs by my sewing studio which has now been entirely painted and flooring about to start! Yeah, we don't sit around after a vacation! We moved up to our bedroom a couple of days before we left for Florida, and I cannot tell you how perfect and cosy it is up there. Ahhh. Anyhow, I now have my eye on a 10" stacker of Boundless Rhapsody that will probably be mine by day's end.

And, just so you know, it's not 50% off one item, nope. You can purchase as many items as you like. This is a great time to get batting, and one I've bought a few times on this kind of a sale is Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Cotton/Polyester and their Tuscany Collection polyester.

I've purchased both of these in the past, and yes, I've been supplied some as well through being an Island Batik ambassador. I wouldn't promote a product if I haven't been in love with it, and proof is that I have bought it before being an ambassador as well as during! The first time I used the polyester was as a healthy scrap I purchased from Alma Sue's Quilts in Sarasota several years ago. She told me this is the batting the Amish and Mennonite ladies who hand quilt for her love the most. I can attest to the fabulous texture and quilts-like-butter attributes! Even the 80/20 has wonderful texture with the extra bit of weight that cotton provides.

And I would be remiss if I didn't slip it in that I think Grace would also look lovely in Edyta Sitar's newest collection available at Connecting Threads.
You know I love blue!

  1. That Boundless Rhapsody is tempting but I bought a "Little Sir, Little Miss" Island Batik FQ bundle a couple of days ago. So I can resist today. A
I have used the Boundless fabrics and I do like them.

  6. Nice to have you back! I’ve also been looking longingly at the Laundry Basket Delfina fabrics. Those blues are fabulous.

  7. Hi Sandra! Wow - Delfina is gorgeous. I have a fondness for that name as it used to be my nickname - Delfina Dove. Anyhoo - that would make for a fab Grace. Oh, those two water photos. I can feel the calmness right through the computer and thanks for the video. I have been seeing loads of log cabins as of late and Tuesday will be here before you know it! I'll definitely be back to see your finished Prairie Skies reveal. {{Hugs}} So glad you're safely back. ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Glad you had a very nice trip to check out the warm. There's beauty at both ends of the temperature spectrum, it's just easier to enjoy it more at the warm end. Good luck with your Log Cabin project. Hope you find some good bargains at both sites this weekend.

  9. It comes as no surprise to me that you hit the ground running and enjoying every minute of it. Fun to see you busy playing with that beautiful IB fabric. I do like that Grace pattern . . . and now I think I need to try some Tuscany poly!

  10. We were very close to you, in Venice, FL for a few days. By the time I saw your Instagram post we were getting ready to head to Winter Haven. You picked a good time to be in FL. Looking forward to see what you do with that log cabin.

  12. Welcome back north. Thanks for the reminder, I needed a white batting and half off was too tempting to pass up.

  13. Eyes closed, fingers in ears, singing lalalala about the sale. Hope you bought that 10" bundle; you're going to have a room to put it in really soon. I love the lake video; so dynamic. As are those log cabins. Going to be a fun unveiling on the 25.

  14. As usual, you've shared some truly lovely fabrics here. You have fabulous taste! I loved the little video clip of the "mushy" water. Such a neat phenomena, but I'm glad it isn't happening under my keel :)

  15. Glad you're home safe & sound, although seems you'll be very busy. Look forward to seeing your reveal on the 25th. I'll admit to loving my Matilda's Own wool/cotton batting & very rarely use polyester, having been told it wasn't good for baby & children's quilts. Take care.
