DrEAMi! #50

Wow! Fifty posts about the squirrels we love to chase. Here's a terrific video of an industrious little gal chasing who knows what, or simply having a blast (sound familiar?!) Just click on the photo to watch it. It's only 11 seconds, so I'll wait here...

The very first DrEAMi linky was January 28, 2017. This cushion cover, my own design, was my Drop Everything And Make it project. If you want to go back and read that post just click the photo. Wow! I had 18 linkups!

Sometimes when we chase a squirrel we accomplish more than one goal. On Thursday I was supposed to be finishing cutting the new version of the throw size quilt for my upcoming QAL, and finishing sewing my RSC string bowtie blocks, but no. I had the sudden idea that I could make two cat mats, which I do need to make to fulfill my self-imposed quota for the first quarter, and make them in green so I could count them perhaps as table scraps and link up with Joy of The Joyful Quilter; cats do like to sit their cute little tushes on tables, and these are placemat size, approximately 12" x 18"...
So off I went. In a few hours I had these! Isn't that top one's main fabric the coolest?!

The bottom one only has one adorable green patch, so I was sure to use all greens on the back. I added a strip of fun prints to the top edge of the fun fabric of the top one as well as down the back. They are both stuffed with fabric and batting scraps and have already been dropped off at the Windsor Humane Society, They loved them too, especially that top one.

Once I got those out of my system, I did go back to the bowtie blocks and made seven. These are such fun to make; my only complaint is that they don't use more strings so the box hasn't got as big a dent in it as I'd hoped!
In case you're wondering about the red, one styrofoam board got broken in the move upstairs but we Tuck-taped it together. One day I'll get a new board. Maybe.

Last month there were a couple of great 3D squirrels:
This tote by Diann at Little Penguin Quilts, made out of a finished wallhanging. You read that right!

Kate of Arts and Socks made a couple of adorable pouches for a fundraiser with fabulous feline fabrics. Makes me want to say fffft! purrrr, just like Simon's Cat.
Adorable right?!
And in case you're not familiar with Simon's Cat, here is a link to all the films...warning, it's a squirrel-cat, so you may be gone a while...

Another short little note about my upcoming QAL, the fifth one! We will be making Follow Your Own Path, and you will have two sizes from which to choose, the baby or a throw. I'll have the Main Page post up on April 1 with the schedule and the hop button. The QAL will start on April 3 and end on June 15, a slow pace once again. The baby quilt pattern you see below is available for free. Just click the photo and you will be taken to the site where you can download it. I'll have the throw pattern instructions here on the blog. The pattern for both will be available in my Etsy shop early in the QAL so if you want to work ahead, (no names mentioned!) you'll be able to. I have some wonderful sponsors this year again for which I am so grateful. Think fabric and patterns and a discount code for all! It's a quick quilt to sew up, so I hope you'll consider joining in. It would make a great Hands2Help quilt!

  1. Okay those bow tie string blocks got me, what a great idea! Do strings ever go down??? I think when we're not looking those squirrels keep replenishing them.

  2. Good morning! Too bad that squirrel can't push a shovel - she'd have a side business to keep her in many throughout the winter. Obviously, only on light dustings would she be able to work . . . Your string bowtie blocks are so cute. It seems that you could incorporate strings into just about every block, no?? April 1st for the QAL details. That's no joke, right?! HAHA! I couldn't help myself. We're trying to decide if we should make a baby or throw size . . . I'll check with Rose to see what size she's already made or is about to finish. ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. The cat set is up for auction, this weekend on Facebook. Look for the Lyndhurst Fetal Cat Project. Sale ends on Sunday, March 28.

  5. Haha - a squirrel snow removal! That looks like fun, honestly! While I haven't had a DrEAMi post in awhile, I've been playing with little things that just pop in. I'll need to make an effort at a DrEAMi post (I keep forgetting while I'm making). You've had some fun - love that pillow, and I'm printing that arrow quilt pattern . . .

  6. Well the March Table Scraps is technically a DrEAMi since once I got started I dropped everything until it was done. Our squirrels never do anything as productive as plowing snow. They just bury black walnuts and then dig them up again.

  8. That squirrel video made me smile which I needed after having our Covid jabs yesterday. Feeling quite achy in the back & had a very poor nights sleep. Love your cat mats & I already had the quilt from Modern by the Yard earmarked as a maybe, so great, that means it will be made after all. Hope to join in before tomorrow if the weather clears enough to get a good photo of my DREAMI. Take care, stay safe & hugs.

  9. Fell in love with the string bow ties. That is a really cool idea. The squirrel video cracked me up! It actually seems quite helpful of him to plow off the railing! Ha!

  13. I’m laughing about the string blocks not making a dent in the bin. I’m pretty sure that sewing them causes them to multiply!
