Welcome to the February edition of Drop Everything and Make it! I hope you've managed to chase a squirrel or two to brighten your days. I don't know about everyone but February seems to be going on forEVER. January and February are the winter months for us here in Kingsville, Ontario, and I just need them to be over already. It doesn't help that such horrible things have been going on again (or still) or new horrible things like the invasion of Ukraine. I am heartsick, as I'm sure my readers are, at the sad state of affairs in the world. We have gone from all being in this together, and lifting each other up just two years ago, to mistrusting each other and even resorting to heinous unfathomable acts. So, we resort to quilting. It lifts our spirits, helps us feel like we are doing something, anything, to brighten our day or someone else's, and quite literally brightens our sewing spaces with splashes of colour.

This month I had a quintessential DrEAMi: I started my Project Quilting challenge piece, a 40.5" x 44.5" quilt, on a Thursday and finished it with eight whole minutes to spare, on Sunday. You can read about it here.
Last month we had this beautiful sewing folder from Turid at den syende himmel

ReplyDeleteSuch pretty projects! I thought I'd sneak in a squirrel this month, but it seems all I've been posting is my round robin borders; all good, but no squirrels! Maybe in March!
ReplyDeleteI love that squirrel meme - so cute! I'm still in awe of your quilt finish in 3 days. You go girl! I didn't go off on a squirrel hunt this month - trying to stay focused. But I suppose there are still a few days left...:)
ReplyDeleteSick . . . so sick of winter. February is the longest short month - 28 days (sometimes 29 to make it even worse!) of heck every year. But, on the other hand, didn't you just show us some daffodils peeking out?? Only in February, my friend. So if we didn't have the endless winter months, we wouldn't fully enjoy Spring in all its glory. I do have a squirrel project!! But I cannot share it. Dog gone it. I'll find solstice and undoubtedly fresh inspiration and another squirrel project in the link ups. Thank you for that, in advance. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteI will join in this month, even though the squirrel took some time to finish due to long-arm machine issues. Maybe I should mine possums or wombats! I did do another squirrel which I can't show yet till it arrives at its destination, although this was a knitting project. Not much energy this Feb for me with such high humidity even though the temps are very warm, they aren't extreme here in the south, but our north is being lashed by heavy rain, storms & flooding & all we've had is 5mls for the whole month & everything has gone brown & dry. Strange weather & all the havoc in the world is tempered a little by our craft as you have pointed out. Thanks Sandra, take care & hugs from down under.
ReplyDeleteThough for me, January and February didn't drag-on (attending QuiltCon had a lot to do with that!), I completely appreciate how quiltmaking is therapeutic, especially when you have worries on your mind. Sewing takes me away too! Oddly enough, David Owen Hastings spoke about Pojagi in a lecture at QuiltCon! I'm fascinated by it, and want to do it by hand, to join Kawandi pieces. I'm checking out YouTube videos. My "squirrel," since returning home from Phoenix, has been to make a Seaglass quilt. I'm happy to say it will be ready for quilting later today.

ReplyDeleteThank goodness for the distraction of our passion! I do love your finish Sandra. Here, summer was too hot and humid - we're just edging into autumn and we are enjoying the slightly cooler temps and lack of humidity. Thanks for having me along :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat little bag...I have in mind to do a little project today to make me happy....we shall see. The world...so sad. I am only heartened by the strong support that Ukraine is getting and hope that it increases each day. This bully needs to be stopped. Praying for peace.
ReplyDeleteSo true , many of us have been reflecting on how our hobby/passion of quilting has gotten us thru these last 2 years. It has been great to do the quilting, gift the quilts and even receive quilts! Stay safe and sew on !
