DrEAMi! #68

Welcome to the final squirrel party for 2022. I've had fun following my heart and my whims several times over the past year, and I know lots of you have too. After all, that's when sewing is the most fun and gratifying, at least imho. You literally let the muse take you away.

Which it did this month.

It was a bit of a DrEAMi/PHD project that grabbed me. Isn't that an oxymoron? Well not really, because yes, this is an ancient UFO, actually a USO (UnStarted Object), though it was planned right from purchasing the fabulous border print, so it qualifies for a Projects Half Done project. However, it's also a DrEAMi, because I literally have dropped the two other 'should be sewing on' projects to make this quilt!

Yes, most definitely unplanned quilt top, with any luck soon to be a finished quilt before midnight tonight, came about when I was making the bench pillow for my newly released pattern Rainbow Neighbourhood. I was rummaging around in my Christmas yardage stash and pulled out this small stack. I had bought probably 15 years ago. I had planned to make a quilt with the Ohio star in it which is featured on Santa’s or King Wenceslas’s coat. Rather than put it back in the cupboard, I let it sit on my counter, while I finished up the bench pillow. And then, instead of making the back for my 150 Canadian Women quilt, and finishing that by year’s end as originally planned, I started planning and figuring, cutting and stitching, and within a couple of days, I had this quilt top!
Wednesday afternoon

Wednesday after supper; adding stars

Thursday - deciding on gold or red connecting the stars

No sewing happened on Thursday. I decided upon the gold, as your eye will be drawn to it and then you’ll notice the stars. Friday I cut and stitched and pressed and the quilt top is complete! I bought the same line for backing so I just need to piece it and load it on Avril. I plan to do an all-over quilt motif (thinking loops and stars!) and get this baby done!

The J's have it for DrEAMi projects in warm colours last month:
Jan at The Colorful Fabriholic made this beauty, a real ray of sunshine and cheer in a very grey month (for us here in southern Ontario anyhow).
Read about how she made it and got more than she'd bargained for with this DrEAMi that totally grabbed her attention.

Janine at Quilts From the Little House had a few squirrels frolicking in her house, but I especially liked this star ornament she made:

Well? Did you get distracted by a just-gotta-do project this month?

Please remember this linkup is not for ongoing projects or for showing off finishes. It's for celebrating and sharing distractions!

  1. Yes, sometimes the muse does take us away to do unexpected and wonderful things. But, I read a quote once that reminded us that it's good when the muse comes, but you can't always wait on her to begin your task. She has a lousy work ethic. Ha ha ha...You just never know when she'll appear, yes?

  2. I love that border print, so it's been fun watching as you made decisions about how to piece those inner rows! Cheers to more DrEAMi moments in 2023!

  3. Such a fun Christmas quilt. I never know how to use border fabrics. You did a great job with showcasing this one.

  4. I think the gold between the stars is the perfect choice, as was adding more stars into the rows. Have fun quilting and finishing up this one; looks like it won't be long!

  5. Hi Sandra! I guess I missed the notice that last Saturday wasn't the last Saturday in December. HAHA! I thought it was odd that you didn't post. I have FIVE DrEAMi car quilts that I whipped up this month, but no post to show for it. No time for writing with all the sewing and quilting that was going on. What a fabulous interpretation of that border fabric. The gold is just the perfect choice, IMHO. Great job! Gosh, that star ornament that Janine made is quite tempting. I guess I'll just have to go check it - just for informational purposes, of course. Happy Happy New Year to you and your peeps. {{Hugs}} a bunch. ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. What a great quilt to finish up the year (unless you squeeze in one more)! Even though the fabric is an older panel, it is timeless. Thank you, as always, for all the distractions/inspirations you send our way!

  7. You're right. You really did have to do something with that Santa fabric. So cute!

  8. I love that Santa border print. I actually have 2 DrEAMi's this month although one isn't finished. I'll try to link up if I can remember how to do it.
    Happy New Year.

  12. Love your Christmas project...and I bet it is nearly done as I am late getting to all blogs. Looking forward to having a DrEAMi project next month...a quilt retreat should surely facilitate that!
