I have two more quilts to show you today! I asked two friends if they were up for making a version of one of the quilts in the new pattern, Lilac Love, which was about to be released.
They both said absolutely, yes please. I am so appreciative that they said yes to a DrEAMi: Drop Everything and Make it! (referring to a link party I used to host celebrating those squirrels we are compelled to chase).
Both chose the second of the two small quilts which measures 38.5". This version has three borders with a flower-bud block as the cornerstones.
First up is Carol (QuiltSchmilt) who was happy to have a distraction this week after a busy exhausting whirlwind week of working the provincial election, not to mention the deeply worrying election results that have yet to be finalized because of counting mail-in ballots. Here is her baby quilt:
As luck would have it, she had just been asked to make a baby quilt, and so the mother-to-be went over to Carol's and chose the focal print which is the four large rectangles surrounding the centre blocks which is called Mother's Choice, by the way.
Next is Wendy's (Pieceful Thoughts) quilt which she calls Singing the Blues, though she doesn't mean that in a sad way. You'll have to read her post to find out why.
Once again, here is Rose's (somethingrosemade) quilt, which is the 39.5" square small quilt with four borders.
And here is my version of the 38.5" quilt with three borders.
The main quilt begets the pattern's name, Lilac Love. Both the original and Rose's have a 3D ribbon effect created with the two-colour diamonds. Small lilac bud blocks are scattered over the quilt top, using one of my favourite features in a quilt: shadowed or layered designs.

You get the idea of just how large a quilt it is, since the small quilt is based on the centre of the large quilt. I can see a possibility of a little bit larger yet quilt by doing the hearts border around that centre and then perhaps just one border... hmm! I feel another squirrel tickling my ear!
Don't be intimidated by the large quilt's size: the huge Mother's Choice block in green (do you see how it is the exact same block as the centre block?!) is made with some very large HSTs.
The pattern is on sale until tomorrow, Saturday for 25% off which means it is just CA$9. I would love it if you would pin the pattern image to help spread the word!
Thank you to Michelle for carefully checking over the math and pieces count in the pattern, to Rose for jumping in to make the very first small quilt when the directions for that were only those within the large quilt, and then she not only made it, but added a border, and THEN, she made a second quilt 🤯 with multiple borders which ended up being one of the two small quilt versions in the pattern! And thank you to Carol and to Wendy who happily whipped up their versions of one of the small quilts. I hope this inspires you and shows you what you can do with not a lot of fabric that is in your very own stash!
It's always fun to see how different fabric and color palettes change the way the final quilt looks. Congrats on the pattern release.
