Eight Makeup Bags!

From time to time I seem to go through spurts of making makeup bags. When I recently, as in over the past month, sold five, this was one of those spurts.

Some of these grew out of a need to make room in my 2.5” squares tray, others from a need for a gift, and still others because of sewing leader/enders, or finding a fun zipper I just had to use.

This one is a thank you gift for a friend who is an optometrist and fixed my prescription sunglasses.

I’ve made three now of these rainbow geese bags, my own design. They were originally designed as a way to use up a bunch of cut away HSTs from a quilt I made for a Villa Rosa Designs blog hop. I really like the way the geese leap off the sides of the bag!

Always a fun rainbow lining for these
Some were made to replenish the colours I’d sold.

This next one was made when I saw the yellow stripes zipper in my zipper bag. It’s from Zipper Valley, part of an order from 1.5 years ago; there are a couple more still that haven’t been used yet. I hadn’t made a yellow makeup bag yet so I figured I needed to rectify that! And wow, do I love how it turned out!

There was a small problem however: I didn’t have any zipper pulls left so I had to order some more. Oh darn. Of course, I couldn’t just order pulls; I had to add in some more zipper tape! This is #5 and although the zippers look chunky, they are nylon so they are lightweight.

I found a small chunk of ‘Limoncello’ by Benartex that made a perfect lining. You can see the silver embossed parts of the fabric amongst the bright yellow.

The aqua bags are always popular and don’t last long.
This side has a lighthouse on it, a bit of a print left over from my lake-themed quilt I made for a PQ challenge.

This side has the word Seaside on it

The perfect sea-themed lining

My new order arrived within one day! I mean I know they’re just ‘up the road’ in Kitchener (4 hours drive) from me but still! Here’s what I got. The postcard and pull attached is a wee gift. They are similar to Mad About Patchwork with their fun messages and little freebies in with every order. Aren’t those labels fun?! Couldn’t resist.
I added in a package of #3 zipper pulls for the extra-long ones I buy and cut in half.
I have a couple of items on my to-do list for this coming week: a cushion which will be a gift, quilting a baby quilt which is going in an upcoming magazine, working on my orange RSC block, maybe some more work on a grey scrapbox, and one of my many USOs. (Un-Started Objects) which has seen the fat quarters pressed and ready to slice up.

One more thing I’m contemplating doing: making quilt number 5 of my Winter Blues pattern, this one using a jelly roll. Next Sunday is the parade! I can’t wait!
