I am so excited, as always, to see the lineup! It's such a thrill, and it never gets old, seeing what people do with a design of mine.
G7 Summit
I didn't realize it at the time, but today is an auspicious day in Canada for another reason other than the birthday of my Dad, the 'famous Canadian', as we are hosting the G7 Summit in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. Gorgeous, remote, it's an area I know well from our days of camping. May there be good things that come out of this meeting of world leaders. Sidenote: my dad and I were both born in Alberta, he in a little French town 20 minutes north of Edmonton called Legal (pronounced as the French, 'le' and gal), me in Edmonton, which is where Prime Minister Carney grew up. 😉
March to Gaza
As you know, I have been outspoken in my support for Palestinians in the genocide that Israel is wreaking with a vengeance that is apocalyptic and inhumane. Well, I found out just this week that there is a March to Gaza that began today, in Egypt, where thousands of civilians, like you and me, from countries around the globe, have gathered and are marching to the border at Rafah as a non-violent way to protest the inaction of their governments. It is "a civic, apolitical, and independent movement." It will take two to three days' march. Dozens of Canadians, including two citizens of Windsor, Ontario are marching. I am there in spirit.
Glowing Hearts
I want to acknowledge and thank Elaine, a blog reader who I have come to consider a friend from our email conversations over that past few years, but especially the more recent ones. She is the spark that provided the second version of Winter Blues, the red and white one with the maple leaf centre. I don't need to spell it all out, but this quilt for me, and for quite a few others making it, has quite the symbolism, especially for us Canadians, 'Elbows up!' as we rally around this beautiful country, hearts aglow with pride, that we love so much.
Here is the link to the pattern, which has instructions for the blue (baby size) quilt, the wallhanging (above) and the throw.
I also want to thank once again my wonderful sponsors this year:

All right! Let's get this party started!
Glowing Hearts was a really fun quilt along. I wasn't sure how mine was going to work out, but I like how it turned out. It was a nice opportunity to use up some stash and make something pretty. Thank you for hosting it.
ReplyDeleteI think this might be my seventh time sewing along with you, but the first time I haven't had my quilt fully finished. Still waiting for a batting delivery! Meanwhile, it will be fun to see all the quilts that have been made from your pattern. Thanks for hosting us again this year, Sandra!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to come back and see all the lovely versions made during the QAL. Happy birthday to that very famous Canadian!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this QAL! It is always so fun and you will see my finish shortly. I just have to add a binding. It is always so fun to see all the versions, and celebrate the very famous Canadian on his birthday, and father's day!
ReplyDelete*blush* you've done it to me again, Sandra! The credit, truly is all to you.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Poppa MMM!! Being a famous Canadian, I can't help but think that Poppa helped to influence my fabric choices!! :)
THANK YOU Sandra ... for a wonderful quilt along, and especially for finding my long lost sewing mojo. You just might have turned me back into a sewing beast again.
