Earlier this year, I completed my first
Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt. It ended up going in a slightly different direction than I’d first planned. I then got busy with the quilt that’s in the current issue of make modern as well as the planning and sewing for my annual quilt along. I’m pleased to say that I spent the last couple of days finalizing what will be the next RSC project for the year and I am caught up with six months' worth of blocks. Because June is pastel colours, here is my pastel blue block.
I’ve wanted to make this block forever; think the first I saw it was way back on Craftsy! Diann of
Little Penguin Quilts made it last year and it reminded me to keep it in mind for this year.
Here are all six blocks in the colours of the month for 2026.
I made a pastel green one since I’d made a dark green one in February. Red was March, pink and orange were April and May. Since I did mainly dark blue in January, I made a bright blue one.
My rule is to use the 3 ½” squares in my tray and add as necessary.

Despite making dark and a few light blue and blocks in January and two blocks in this new project, you can see my blues are still rather plentiful, as are the greens. We haven’t done turquoises yet. I didn’t have to cut any bright blues! You can see that there are repeats in some of the blocks which is due to using the tray first.
In case you want to make these blocks, and for future reference for myself, you need (15) 2 ½” squares of a colour, one 2 ½” square of white and eight 2” white squares.
Sew across the diagonal of the white squares onto four red squares to make the star points. Join the squares as per usual. It makes a 12” finished block.
I still need to keep sewing up crumbs and figure out a design for them.
I have two more makeup bags for my shop, one in dark blue and one in aqua. I sold the Postcard from Sweden-style bag this past week, so when that happens, I usually make one or two more. I have the dark blue one finished but I’m waiting for gold zipper pulls to arrive from Zipper Valley to finish up the aqua one.
When I looked in my blue scraps fabric box, the first eligible piece on top was one you may recognize. I love it as a pop for the lining.
It is for sale
here.
Oh, I love the dark blue back and that lining is perfection. Your next RSC project blocks are super fun; I look forward to watching that grow!
ReplyDeleteI had first seen the 16 patch star on "Julie's Quilts and Costumes" and loved these simple, fun blocks. I finally made a quilt with them last year, and loved how it turned out. Yours is off to a great start and can't wait to see the rest/ Your bags are once again, beautiful. Love the lining! Sheila in WI
