January OMG

My success rate has been dismal, but I will try once more, and change it up this time. By the end of January I aim to have at least two cat mats sewn. Here are my four fabric selections:

Option A: Why I save skinny, 1" wide, sometimes 3/4" chunks and strips I do not know, but I had this idea to do something like Crazy Mom Quilts, Amanda Jean's birch trees quilt, and do an improv cat mat. Did a little mindless piecing the other day between the blocks you see below and some of the 150 Canadian Women quilt assembly, and there you have that rather odd-looking strip in the centre of the photo.
Option B: Some scraps of 'Dot Crazy' from an upcoming quilt for Benartex will be a rail fence block mat like the one I did here.
Option C: Scraps of the fabulous fish fabric and Good Neighbors would make a fun mat.
Option D: Paler blues is the RSC2018 colour of the month, so it would be fitting to make a cat mat with them. So you see, I'm not lacking for choices!

I  whipped up these four blocks to send to Ventura, California. The Ventura Modern Quilt Guild is sewing them up into quilts for comfort for the Thomas Fires victims. These are quick and fun to do. The link will take you to the info page.

Finally, it's high time I made another exciting announcement: I was chosen to be an Island Batik Ambassador for 2018! Pinch me!

I'm pumped about this, have long been a fan of batiks, (and having missed the deadline for application last year) and have so enjoyed seeing the creativity of the ambassadors as they rise to the monthly challenges and come up with inspirational projects.

Click Irish Chain Quilts for the link to the Split Decision pattern that many of you asked me about. This is my Splash of Colour quilt top, which is headed to Avril my Avanté this weekend.

  10. Boy, you have all kinds of fun creative options going on; I love it! I think days like that, where you just play creatively, is not only restful but rejuvenating. It always jump-starts my creativity when I play. Love your quilt, and thanks for the reminder about getting those Ventura blocks made! Congrats on getting to be an IB ambassador -- you'll be great and you have a fun team of people to be creative with!

  11. Congratulations on being an Island Batik Ambassador! I love your black and white flimsy with a splash of color! Do you have a favorite shop for getting black and white prints or did you just accumulate them through the years? I need to find 9 different black and white fabrics (5 white background with black and 4 black background with white). I have found two that I really like and am on the hunt for 7 more. Just need FQ's.
