Yup I'm Here

**If you're looking for TBT aka Throwback Thursday, thank goodness for AndrĂ©e, who is hosting this month at Quilting and Learning - What a Combo! while I am still in a bit of recuperating mode...

My friend Helen, of Midget Gem Quilts told me to take care of myself after the wedding, that she found it "a bit flat". She was right. I was unprepared for how much of an emotional rollercoaster it would be, all rooted in supreme happiness for my 'baby', but poignancy and joy had a tug-of-war in my heart. There was some stress as well, with out of town family in town, some in our house, some not, but the entire wedding weekend went off without a glitch. It was perfection. Magical. Beautiful. Splendour abounded, and a splendid event from the rehearsal to the final goodbyes on Tuesday to departing family.
See what I mean about the Cinderella marries her Prince, Beauty and the Beast, "Tale as old as time; true as it can be..." ambiance? Ahhh....

Dayna worked her fingers to the bone planning every single detail of the wedding, and although I knew about everything, and had helped with just a few items, seeing it all come together and flow and work and add to the ethereal quality to the entire event just took my breath away. I know I sound over-the-top gushing but every single person I talked to commented on it being the best wedding they'd ever been to and how wonderful and thoughtful every part of it was.

All right, on to what little I've managed to accomplish amidst all this wonder.

The top of my quilt for the November challenge (yup, late again) is finally done!

First block, test block, amongst the 2.5" strips of Jungle Cruise, one of the collections in my second Island Batik box. I just love the rich purple with that tawny wood whorls fabric, don't you?

I'm making quarter log cabin blocks, and this was the first layout of a stepping, or overlapping design. When I do the finished quilt post, I'll give you my two sources of inspiration.

In case you missed it on Instagram on Monday, these are the final three blocks being assembled. The entire quilt has been sewn on Billie, my 1947 Featherweight that I bought in Belle River in the spring of 2017. She is the quietest, get-down-to-work little girl, ever. Aren't those fabrics the most lush, ever?
And here is the finished top, inside on the design wall, because the weather was frightful, rain and wind, oh my.

In between making the log cabin blocks, I'm now on the 13th and last row of my 150 Canadian Women quilt. You can see a bit of the top half of it behind the log cabin quilt flimsy. Once the 13th row is complete and the sashing added, I will sew the top half to the bottom half and...  I will not have a finished flimsy, because there are a couple of borders to do yet. Oh well, slow and steady, right?

Fawn's quilt, which is on my Q3 List is also coming along slowly and steadily. Here's a sneak peek.

I should be back in a few days with a finish post on the log cabin quilt, which got its name Monday when Dayna showed up unannounced for a surprise visit. I'd figured I'd have the top done by supper, and could get the backing together...yet another interruption hindered that plan! I'll take that kind of interruption any day of the week, from my daughter, however. 😁

  1. What a great photo of you and your daughter. Love flows. I'm so glad you had a great celebration, and the emotional let down afterward is, indeed, real. My husband and I took a week's vacation after our daughter's wedding. Helped immensely! I love your newest quarter log cabin block quilt. It's a design I've been meaning to try one day. The batiks are perfect!

  3. Love to see the photos, Sandra, especially the one of you and your daughter! I haven't experienced the whole wedding thing yet, so I can only imagine the emotional whirlwind of it all. I do know, from others, that it takes time to settle in. That log cabin quilt and the fabrics is so pretty. Makes me want to go somewhere warm on a safari :-)

  8. Your log cabin is lovely and unique! Looking forward to the finish. Your daughter made such a beautiful bride and they look so happy dancing! I do remember that deflation after our daughter's wedding - happy for them, but sad for us (she's our only child) at the same time! I think I had a small melt down after we got home! But we love our SIL and they have given us three wonderful grandchildren!! Wishing them all the best and you a future of wonderful grandchildren!! I welcome interruptions from them at any time - even their parents!!!! LOL

  9. Hi Sandra! Oh so many emotions to go through with your baby getting married. Add to that all the other relatives and family friends, and it can go south quickly. I'm so glad everything went according to plan, although quite honestly no one would know either way. Just Dayna! I'm sure it's a bit of a letdown afterwards with all the excitement over with. There's a little bit of a hole - you can't believe she is married now can you? {{Hugs}} I look forward to seeing all your finishes later this week. Interruptions like a surprise visit from Dayna are fabulous and delightful - enjoy. Happy Happy Thursday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. Such a beautiful photo of you and your daughter and your daughter and husband. What a beautiful bride. And the quilts are fantastic, too. You have such a way of choosing just the right fabrics to make these quilts shimmer. Love seeing your progress. Your friend is right...you do need to take care of yourself after the wedding. It can be such a let down, once the adrenaline rush disappears!

  16. I'm glad you had such a great time at the wedding and that you have taken some me time to care for yourself in the aftermath. Both quilts are spectacular. Did you make up the block for Fran's quilt? It looks like it would be a fun one for a comfort quilt. Looking forward to seeing it all come together.

A great setting for your log cabin blocks - and they certainly look good in these fabrics. Sounds like you are making some good progress in your sewing spot.

Hope you are feeling a bit more emotionally stable now too. Your log cabin quilt top is just superb (as usual) - totally in awe that you got this far with something so magnificent with everything else going more important in your life. Take care xx.

  22. eh .... beauty and the beast ....? Maybe not so much that one! But every other disney movie!!
The photos all looked lovely and a great day. It is weird, after both my sons weddings, both very happy events I should add, and also my sisters, I just felt as if I had done a marathon. Sort of post holiday blues.
