My Best of 2019

As the final few hours of the last year, and the second decade of the 2000s winds down, I'm here drinking tea, and writing a blog post of reflection. 😁 I'm linking up with Cheryl's Meadow Mist Designs, Best of 2019 Linky Party. I wrote 126 posts this year, counting this one! This year instead of most views, most comments type of criteria, I simply picked some favourites from the year. It was hard, and

1. My favourite mini quilt this year is Moody Blues.

It's my own design. I thoroughly loved every bit of the process of making it. It is one of the quilts that will be hanging at the Kingsville Library in January. I was asked to be the featured artist once again!

2. I ran my third annual QAL with great success: 18 quilts and/or flimsies got linked up in the final parade. This year it was another of my own designs, Beothuk Star. I remade it for the QAL as a baby quilt.
I'm pleased that the pattern is actually together and for sale in my Etsy shop! I have two other QAL patterns that have yet to get put into PDF form.😬

3. An extremely meaningful make for me this year was Nana's Closet, a quilt I made for my nephew out of my mum's clothes that he and my sister had set aside and sent to me after my mum passed away.

4. Another very meaningful one is Grace, commissioned by my daughter for her dear friend upon the tragic loss of her baby. It is another one of my own designs.
This photo is without its pink binding on, but also without the tree branches' shadows across it. I've finished writing up the pattern and it's out for testing as I type.

5. My favourite bed-sized quilt this year is My Mother's Lilacs, featured in the July/August issue of McCall's Quilting.
Used with permission

I am so proud of my work on this one: the design itself, how the centre 12" block is the Mother's Choice block, and the entire quilt is a gigantic 86" Mother's Choice block, and especially of the quilting I did.

Linking up

Sadly, as of today I am suddenly locked out of the ability to comment on people's blogs on my MacBook. I've checked the previous fix I used to get me back in, which was unchecking the box 'Prevent cross-site tracking' under privacy, and it's still unchecked. So I am flummoxed. Anyhow, hopefully I can get it back in short order.

Here's to a wonderful 2020!

  5. I hate those little glitches that crop up every once in awhile. Hope you get it figured out. I know how frustrating it can be. I enjoyed seeing all your favorites and reading the little stories about them. Have a wonderful New Year, Sandra! I am looking forward to more inspiration from your blog in 2020! XO

  9. I’m glad I didn’t have to choose favorites from your quilts because I always love them—I think, in part because of your explanations of the “whys” of how you made them. I hope you get your commentability back. That can be so frustrating. I often comment from my phone and sometimes get “locked out.” It seems to happen after I make a series of comments on various blogs. I wonder if my phone thinks I’m a robot. Anyway, it looks like we can still comment on your blog, so that’s good. Happy pattern publishing!

  11. Hi Sandra! I love these reflection posts as most share quilts that either I've forgotten about or possibly even missed the first time around. Of course, Grace HAS to be on the list. And Beothuk Star - what a fun QAL that was. I have to agree with you on your favorite - simple but oh so striking. The colors in Lilacs - holy moly, that looks so gorgeous on the bed and I seem to recall it being staged with some real lilacs. {{Hugs}} and Happy New Year. 2020 is on track to being a fabulous year. ~smile~ Roseanne

  12. Lovely review of your quilts even if it's only a tiny portion of what you accomplished. It's always annoying when tech things you've always done suddenly don't work any more. Looking forward to what you get up to in 2020.
