DrEAMi! #37

Welcome to the February edition of Drop Everything and Make it! So are the squirrels starting to race circles around the trees in your yard? Or in your sewing room perhaps? With Quilt Con just over, I bet there are lots of the little furry guys running around in quilters' heads right about now! Once again, I chased a couple of squirrels, thanks to Project Quilting. The first one amazed me as to how fast I got a pretty large quilt together (51.5" square). This was for the 'Put a Heart on It' challenge.

It even made the Sunday Showcase on Aurifil's blog. 😍💖 I just love this quilt, which I named 'Smooches'. It will be one of my comfort quilts for Hands2Help this year. You can read about it here.

The second squirrel doesn't have a blog post about it yet, though I did get one up on Instagram in time to link up for prizes. It got featured on Aurifil's Instagram feed!

Although it was faster to quilt, I'm not so sure it was faster to piece...it measures 3.75" square, and those wee HSTs finish at 1/2"! It isn't paper-pieced, although I thought at first I'd be doing it that way. I plan to have a mini display in my new studio, so it was fun to make this mni-mini with that in mind.

Last month Dawny chased this wee squirrel, made as a request, and done in an evening for a grateful husband:

Contenting with the 'wee' theme.... Allison of New Every Morning was a busy girl, but somehow this project from 2014 bounced back to the fore, and no that's not a DrEAMi! but, in the wee hours of the morning, she had an idea, so has gone back to putting this together asap in her new setting idea!
Now let's see what kind of projects had you dropping everything you're supposed to be doing, and getting them made! Remember a true DrEAMi! is usually one that goes from bouncing around in your brain to done and done, though sometimes the done is just the flimsy or a block that just suddenly distracted you to the point where you had to get it made to get it off your mind!

If you missed my little squirrel I tossed your way yesterday, today is the final day to snag kits and yardage out of Connecting Threads (affiliate link) Clearance section at an extra 20% off. It ends at midnight. I know I have no business going there either, because I helped clear some space at bluprint this past month, but I think backings especially at this time, at less than $5US/yard, and a quilt kit for $25US, and free shipping to US, Canada and Australia at order totals of $65, $85 and $100 respectively.

  1. You might want to check the settings on the linkup *wink* (right now it says it will open in 13 hours).

Looks like you had a couple of fun and productive squirrel projects. Sewing tiny can definitely take time and patience, but it was clearly worth it for your finished result!

  6. Thank you for sharing my long lasting Dreami block! Of course other squirrels have been distracting me since that one came back to life in my sewing room... :-D

  7. Love that Smoochie quilt. If I look too long at Alison's block a squirrel may take me away., I have that book somewhere. Yes, the squirrels have been running circles around the trees in my yard and the quilts in my head this month. I need to finish a squirrel idea that jumped into my head a month ago before I can play with any of the other pesky critters. Have a Happy March ... :-) Pat

  8. Your Smooches quilt will definitely bring comfort—and smiles and smooches! But wow, the teeny tiny mini! I can’t even imagine how you did that and got those points so precise. Can’t wait to see the blog post for it.
