This is box #10! It's been done for almost two weeks, but I'm just getting around to posting it now. My fourth finish in 2021, in keeping with the fourth book I'm currently reading! Off to a great start, I am. 😇
I've really enjoyed making these boxes. The tutorial is on Angela's blog, so scrappy.
Here are a couple shots of it. I used some fun threads, one a polyester by Exquisite that has such a lovely sheen. I also used a couple of Sulky metallic threads, a gold and a silver that I used right up, and then some silver, pale blue and pink variegated that you see below.
I did some FMQ fancy stitching on the front of the basket: beads and a half-inch wide ribbon candy. I also stitched down the handle with a metallic thread, since the handle and matching lining are silver metallic on black fabric.
Fun scraps with a hit here and there of colour. There's half of an angel kitty skirt, beloved Laurel Burch fabric that I used to make my friend Linda a mug cosy, some French text fabric, various bits from my Float quilt, Callum's Shift quilt and Brady's Jack and Friends quilt. (Ah, I love my blog: I was able to find those quilts in a flash, and spent a lovely ten minutes diversion, reading about them and looking at pictures--Brady! Age 7, and now he's in GRADE 7!)
It makes me want to make another black and white with a splash of colour quilt...
I still have Ziploc bags for my grey and my brown scraps, so I may make one more yet, and put them in it though it probably would make me twitch to not have the colours separate...
I do have enough RSC projects on the go for this year and a leader/ender project as well, so for now I'm leaving the grey and brown scraps as is.
It looks great, and I think it's smart to give yourself some time to think about what you want to do for the grey and brown scraps. I love all the fun threads you used in this one!
ReplyDeleteI do love your coloured boxes for scraps, but not sure where I'd put mine with not much space in the sewing room (a small bedroom). I do miss having a studio, which I can look back at on my blog too, which I started same year as you I've just noticed, which must make my 8 year blogiversary about now. ReplyDeleteI love seeing these baskets, and this one is so fun. I can see why that stroll down memory lane has you wanting to make another black & white quilt. The only thing missing from that basket is Bella :-)

ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job of getting your colored baskets done. I have red done, purple started but stalled out. I think I'll take a look at Angela's pattern too. I love that you used some of your specialty thread on this one. I need to keep that in mind if (when) I get another of mine to quilting stage. Thanks for the inspiration.
