To Do Tuesday Update

Popping in with a quick 'what am I up to' post. The PHD programme is helping to keep me focussed for now.
Last week's list:
1. Keep up with the temperature quilt.✅ Posted on Instagram.
2. Start or dare I say finish quilting the Smooches quilt.✅ Done and posted here.
3. With nearly half the month gone, I want to at least pick a UFO from my PHD list and get the backing assembled, ready to quilt.✅

For January, I've decided to finish this UFO from 2019, my Arrows RSC quilt.

I spent a little time contemplating whether I would keep this quilt for myself, sell it, or put it on the comfort quilt pile. Once I decided I wouldn't keep it, I knew then I'd save the two rainbow backing hunks of fabric for an RSC quilt I am going to keep. Off to the stash I went to see what I could use up.

I'm happy to report that all three of those chunks are now completely gone or just a bit left, as in less than a fat quarter. All three were bought with backing purposes in mind, and have been used as such.

I've also been playing, designing a little quilt that is on my PHD but that I'm keeping mum about for now. There have been two photos of the #newproject on my Instagram. This part got me just bubbly with excitement.
Designing on graph paper or in EQ is exciting and fun, but I am finding there is just something about designing as you go with the fabric, on the design wall that is exhilarating. Note that the above, though fussy cut, is not for Project Quilting. Interestingly, I had this seed germinated before the challenge was posted.

For next week:
1. Keeping up with the temperature quilt is going to be an ongoing thing, so I won't list it after this time.
2. Finish up the #newproject
3. Start or dare I say again, finish the Arrows quilt.
4. Start and finish the Project Quilting challenge.
5. Post the black scraps box here on the blog; it's already on Instagram.

One of the items on my PHD Starts in 2021 List is a Pinwheel Leaders/Enders project. Here it is at the 110 blocks stage! Every ten pinwheels, into the bag they go and the tally changed.
These are almost all triangles cut away from joining binding strips together, with some from stitch-and-flip block parts. Yeah, I save them, have done forever. Some I've sewn back together and made into the odd mini, mug rug, or pincushion. This year, I am trying to use up scraps and stash and turn them into useful items, so I decided to tackle the pile of triangles. They finish at 2" so I'm thinking of making them into blocks with 2.5" squares, since I have rather a lot of those too!

I worked a little on my RSC Card Trick quilt, making some pink/grey blocks (the ones in the centre) and some grey HST ones.
Grey is usually left until the end of the year. This quilt will have four colours, pink, grey, black and I'm thinking green.

  1. OMG, you get so much done. Scraps are coming out my ears too & although I'd love to join in some of your challenges, I'm sure I'd get waylaid too much along the way. I was going to sew yesterday, but somehow was in the garden by 9am picking blueberries (3kg in the end), grocery shopping, then distributing some of the berries and next thing it was nearly time for our evening meal, so no sewing at all till we sat down & I sewed a label to an old quilt. Still plodding away on that challenge of labeling all that are still here & putting aside quite a few as gifts or for charity. Take care, stay safe & hugs from down under.

  4. Hi Sandra! What accomplishments you've been making lately. I'm so glad that the PHD list is helping you get motivated to finish up projects like the Arrows. You've shared so much eye candy - the Card Trick blocks look so good. Keep on having fun, my friend! Thanks for linking up today and good luck with your list for this week. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. I have a big bag of odd triangles too--usually I at least try to make them into HST, one day I'll dig them out.

  7. You sure know how to mix it up (love that)! You know I enjoy both drawing designs on graph paper and just sewing without. So I like seeing those projects, and I'm curious what you are cooking up for the PQ challenge!

  9. That's a very ambitious Tuesday to-do list. It would be enough to last me a whole month. I've finally started quilting my guild UFO challenge piece that was supposed to be finished by Jan 11. Nothing like starting the new year behind already. All my other in progress projects are set aside until the quilting (on my Bernina dsm) is done. I could set up my travel machine, but it's pretty crowded in the studio already. After a snowy start we have some sunshine, but it's 23F and supposed to stay in the 20's all day. Brrr.

  12. What a wonderful array of projects you are working on. In order to be that productive I can see that a list really helps. Do you move back and forth between the projects or just stay with one until you reach the set goal on it and then move to another? Love all those colors!!

  13. I like the pinwheels. I keep sewing up triangle pairs, perhaps I need to think of a project for them. I do think you need green in the last project..lol
