DrEAMi #71

Welcome to another Drop Everything And Make it! post, where we celebrate those projects that distract us from our 'supposed-to-be-making' projects, aka as squirrels. We've all been bitten/smitten with a project we see somewhere, be it online, at a guild meeting, in a magazine, and we stop sewing our current project because we

just
have
to make

this thing
right
NOW!
I don't know about you, but these things usually hit me at the worst of times. I'm making a quilt for a reason, a person, and wham! out of left field comes this attractive bauble. Quilter ADD I also call it.

Each one of the Project Quilting makes over the past three months is a true DrEAMi for everyone because you have one week to dream up (grin) a project that fits the challenge theme, and then make it, from conception to finished product. Sometimes a DrEAMi stops at the finished flimsy, but it never stops part way through, so this linkk-up is not, I repeat not, for in-progress projects.

Susan at Granny Smith's Quilting gave us an example last month of a DrEAMi of the second category. She made the top but hasn't quilted it yet.
I thought I'd share it for several reasons: it's such a fabulous design by one of my favourite designers, Joanne, at Canuck Quilter Designs.
This is Cascade, a striking design that makes a large throw. The second reason for featuring Susan's version is that Joanne is one of my annual QAL sponsors, and has been all seven years I've run it. Not only does she offer a prize to participants, but she also gives a pretty sweet discount of 10% off all her patterns to my blog readers during the entire two-plus months of my Quilt Along!

That brings me to the third reason, that you can make anyone's patterns your own. Notice how Susan used two backgrounds? This happened by necessity, (I mean, hello, that's a big part of quilting!) but I think it adds a je ne sais quoi to the design.

And the final reason is to watch this space on Monday, where you will get the schedule and list of sponsors for my seventh (wow) annual Quilt Along which begins April 3. This year is a little different: we are making Rainbow Neighbourhood, the most recent pattern I released in December 2022. A few of my regular QAL-ers bought it, and said how they thought it would make a great one for a quilt along. You will know that ever since the first one, my QALs have been free here on the blog, with the purchase of the pattern optional. This year I'm asking that participants buy the pattern, but wait, it will be discounted 25% as it was in December for its release, and there's even more to sweeten the pot as to why you should join in and buy it. With that teaser, you must come back on Monday, when it will go on sale all week ahead of the kick-off post, and to see what that extra is. For the QAL, you will have your choice of making either of the two quilts on the cover, the twin on the left or the throw on the right.
There are two other projects within the pattern, a bench pillow and a single house cushion, but for the quilt along, it will be the quilts. There is much opportunity for making the quilt your own, as many of the components on the house block as well as all the filler blocks are interchangeable.

All right! Without further ado, let's see what squirrels grabbed you during the month of March.

  1. I totally understand the DreamI experience, as I was distracted by making a new Easter table runner this week. Your new project is really striking, with a very modern vibe to it.

  3. Thanks Sandra & I'm not sure about this month's Dreami, as it is in the same not quilted yet, as last months, but on of my own designs I wanted to try. We've had some corny mishaps, helping out a neighbour & lots of car club bits'n'bobs to sort out, so not much has been achieved except getting one quilt onto the big machine that I needed to finish for a new baby. Thanks, take care & hugs.
