Cat Mats Installment 1 of 3

So that will get people coming back for more right?!
One of the year goals is making at least two cat mats for either the Windsor Humane Society or the Leamington Kittenaide Program per quarter. I am happy to report that my two are done for this quarter, and it's another item checked off my Q2 list!

I like to call these 'A Cushy for a Tushy' and I think two cat bums will love to curl up on these as they wait for their forever homes.

Four years ago a blog reader friend sent me a bunch of scraps from her animal wear/accessories making times, along with some wearable items she'd made for our fur kids. There were a few fat quarter-sized pieces, but most were 5" squares and under, with some strips. On the weekend, I decided it was time to do something about my overflowing bag of trimmings from fabric/thread/batting, and although Bella has curled up IN/ON it on more than one occasion, I needed to get it somewhat emptied.
She's doing her best 'a girl has no place to just relax' impression, when in truth, she has several...

So I pulled out the scraps and started to fit them together. There are lots of adorable prints! I decided to use up a bunch of the pieces on the backs, as well as a hunk my brother had sent me about the same time from costumes his friend had made for a work function.

They went together pretty quickly. Each one is roughly a placemat size. Now to contact them and arrange to drop them off!

Quilt Stats:
Pattern: Original design
Size: approximately 12 x 18"
Fabric: scraps
Backing: as above
Batting: fabric, thread, batting trimmings
Quilted: on my Bernina
Threads: pieced with various threads on my Bernina; quilted with various polyester threads

  2. I'm sure Bella would have even been willing to model for these photos had you not opted to photograph them outside! :)

  4. Hi Sandra! Look at how pretty Bella's eyes are! I'm pretty sure she was posing on that scrap bag because it brings out the lovely color of her eyes. I love the kitty cushy tushy mats. I'm not sure you will ever get the appropriate thank you right away but I know you will be thought of fondly for your care and concern. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Well done on another tick or two off your list. The cushions are delightful. I hope there are just a few scraps left over for Bella's comfort....

  6. Bella, eyes matching the lines on the board, and some cats are going to be very happy as they knead the mats to their liking. No matter how soft the bed, they always seem to have that way to " Scone" the fabric. They will be so happily received. And the scraps are reduced somewhat.
