June OMG: Pink Scraps Sorting Box

After spending hours upon hours on the computer yesterday putting the finishing touches on my upcoming pattern release, which Yvonne will have a look at this coming week, (yep, another, and it's a stars quilt!) I had to work on something mindless, fun, and pink. So I started quilting the panels for my next scraps sorting box, and finished it up today.
I love it. I guess I have loved pink forever, since I used to have a pink wall-papered living room in the 90s, and the lining, which you may recall is also featured in my Bear Paw Baby quilt, was what I used to make cushions that sat on my oak chairs in my dining room... So pink is right up there next to blue. Making this box gave me a lot of joy, on a day that is special: June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day here in Canada and it coincides with the Summer Solistce, though that actually did happen here yesterday about 5:20 pm. Rather fitting for the announcement that is forthcoming in this post, a post that is also my OMG fulfillment post.

On my Grace Once Again post, where I showed the quilt I've made which will go to Gracie, Chantel Moore's little girl, who is now motherless thanks to our police force, I said that any patterns sold from the date of that post until today, I would donate all the proceeds to the Go Fund Me page for Chantel. Well I sold 10 TEN patterns! Thank you so much to those who purchased this pattern. Several of you are dear friends.😘 After my Etsy fees are deducted, I have a total of about $85 to donate to her page. I will receive the funds tomorrow. Here is a screenshot of my donation, made just before I publish this post.

Back to my scraps box. I enjoy writing words in FMQ, and so I wrote a few pink words.

I quilted it with loops and flowers similar to Leanne's of Devoted Quilter.

The back got straight lines with a bit of a curve built in. I put my label here too.

I made the bottom panel again and quilted it, to use up more scraps (ha--still no dent in the pile).

And now there are seven!
Note the near-empty spool of Aurifil 28 wt! Okay and the tea... that weird black 'line' is the arm of my Ott-lite!

I really need to make a blues one, maybe two, one light and one dark. I have two panels done for a cream and white box. I will have to get them all made so MacGyver knows what size of shelf to make me!

  1. That's a great donation! I only do five petals on my flowers, but I see Leanne does six. I might try that next time. Have a great week.

  2. I think a light blue and a dark blue makes good sense. I'd probably need to add a black one for myself and gray and brown as well...

  3. I love seeing your pink scrap basket today! I made one this month, also! I’ll post about it more the end of June. Joy at The Joyful Quilter and I have a bit of a competition going this month. So far I have made all the RSC20 colors plus dark blue. They fit perfectly on my shelf space. And they are fun to do!

  7. You have a fun parade of baskets happening. I'd probably make a light and dark of blue. Will be fun to see how many baskets you end up making!

  8. Love the contrast of your lights and darks. I have really enjoyed my scrap boxes. I wound up making light and dark green ones and light and dark blue ones then I realized I needed a black one and a brown one! LOL I now have 13. Maybe I am done now?

  9. You have a gorgeous collection of scrap baskets. I love how colorful they are sitting there behind your sewing machine. No excuse to have scraps laying around (though I'm sure mine would still be lying in a mess everywhere LOL)! I love the creativity you put into the finishing and the quilting is superb. These are really keepers.
