Blossoms Every Which Way

I have finished my third version of FYOP, aka Follow Your Own Path, before my second! I am in love with it.

I got a lovely surprise seeing the new weigela bushes in bloom!

I'll be linking this post up on June 15 when the final parade of finishes opens. I decided to make the throw size blocks but less of them to end up with a baby quilt. It went super-fast!

Outside of the Kona grey fabric, these are leftovers from two projects I made for Benartex, the floral fabric is Color Calypso by Kanvas from Wildflower Pinwheel Placemats, and the grey woven background is from Ladder Links, both for issues of their ezine, Modern by the Yard

I had intended to put it for sale in my Etsy shop, but once the top was together I was smitten.

So I now have another yoga quilt, here artfully modelled (photo-bombed) by Xena. She was super-interested during the entire process! She's just too adorable, n'est-ce pas?

The backing is a piece of cotton my Auntie Phyl gave me in a bag of cottons she was clearing out. It is perfect: flowers, tone, and colour. I would hazard a guess that it is older than any cotton in my stash which means most likely 30+ years. I will find out, now I think about it!
Gorgeous texture provided by that flower and spirals quilting.

The quilting motif was what I had suggested in the Quilting Suggestions post, one of my favourite all-over floral meanders. I added in loops, both single and, thanks to Leanne of Devoted Quilter, double ones. I love the soft effect. And it's all so quick!

The binding is a piece I have had forever, like 15-20 years. In my use it up attitude of this past year or so, I knew it would be a great one, and I love it. Best of all, with having .5 metre, I have enough left for another small quilt down the road.
Always intrigues me how blue shade photos are.

I did the binding by machine, sewing it onto the front and then top-stitching it down on the back. There is a line of stitching on the front but it is very close to the ditch, and will sink in when washed. This mimics the hand-stitching it down to the back method pretty closely. Also the____ palest of greens colour of Aurifil thread I used blends beautifully.

My name is in the lower right corner:

Here is one sort of glamour shot by our gorgeous rhododendron, which is just about in full bloom.

and another attempt:
Still think the Xena one is the best!

It's still not too late to join in the QAL. It's free, right here on the blog. The main post is here, or simply click the button on the sidebar. The final parade is June 15.

Because of the day-long issues with uploading photos yesterday, I didn't get a chance to show another wide backing I picked up at Connecting Threads' (affiliate link) 20% off site wide sale (use code: SEW4SUMMER)
Isn't that awesome?! Thank you to all those who have made purchases through my links; I truly appreciate your support.

  2. I'm in love with it and the background fabric is similar to what I've used on my small one, but I don't think the one you've used. The photos are gorgeous too and now I can't wait to see what everyone else has done on the 15th & not sure whether mine will stack up.........Xena is very precious, me thinks. Thanks for sharing your quilt early, take care, stay safe & hugs.
