Project Quilting 17.4 Of Another Era

Well, I did not get the original quilt project finished, so on Saturday evening, I turned to Plan B, which was using some Debbie Mumm fabric from about 25 years ago. I'd recently used one of the three squares from the panel on the back of my Happy Christmas quilt. I had thought that the backup plan would be to make a table runner using these two with a star block in the centre. However, with limited time, I knew I'd have to do something even quicker, and suddenly I thought I could make a tea cosy! Heaven knows I'd made four mug cosies this week, so one more large one shouldn't be a problem.

A little less than two hours later, on Saturday evening, like 10 pm, I had it done. Incidentally, that teapot is circa 38 years old, and the table topper is made (in 2005) from the same fabric line that I was using in the Plan A quilt!

I posted the in-progress photo on Instagram that shows my nearly-finished quilt top on the design wall with the teapot shell just cut out.
About 8 pm Saturday evening.

For a size and shape template, I used a tea cosy I have that my mum brought back for me from a Barbados trip about 38 years ago (Brianne was around 2, Dayna was a baby; I know because the girls each got handmade little dolls). When it came to the lining, I browsed through my little drawer of Christmas remnants and spied Lynette Jensen's Candy Coated Christmas, yep, another vintage one, unrolled it, hoping there'd be enough... phew. Just! I quilted it with some polyester batting and assembled the cosy.

For binding I went to my red scraps basket, and right near the top was this deep maroon with black scrolls print, one I think is a Jinny Beyer from around the same period as the other two.

I remembered to use a satin label, the second one from my latest purchase from Ikaprint; the first label went on Bees. I looked back to see when I'd used the first label from the previous set of 200 I'd bought: August 4, 2022 is the date of that order. That's a lot of quilted items in 3.5 years!

I waited until Sunday morning to take these natural light photos, no sunshine to be had, but better than night time, and got it linked up after I came home from teaching my Sunday morning yoga class.

Funnily enough, I really like the way this turned out! I will probably list it in my Etsy shop, since I have the Barbados one as well as a snowflake one I made in 2015, which actually uses the Thimbleberries fabric on one outer side of the cosy.

Here's a photo for size comparison between the teapot and mug cosies.

Bella of course had to come and take a look, was about to sit on it but mean Sandra stood it up.

Thank you to Kim and Trish for another fun Project Quilting challenge!
And just where is my quilt at this moment? Well, amidst watching a heartbreaking loss in men's Olympic hockey where Canada outplayed and outshot the Americans, much like the women's final, and then watching the beautiful meaningful Closing Ceremonies, I got the top finished as of Sunday evening.
It's a little shadowy despite adjustments in my Photos app because it's again overcast Monday morning.

The backing fabric, a flannel in the same line, has been laundered and awaits assembly. However, I have my SAHRR round to finish before Wednesday, so that will come first.
