Q4 FAL My List

Well, here we go for the last time in 2019. First of all, as per usual, here is a collage of the projects I did finish in the third quarter. Twelve were on my list, rather ambitious, and of those I completed six, so only 50%, not so good. However, I was gone almost a month with our Europe and UK trip in July/August, and there were several other squirrels and a few unplanned requests in the mix.

I am supremely happy that I got Brady's football quilt finally done! All right, let's see what ambitions I have for this last quarter of 2019.

1. I am embarrassed to have this yet again (it's been at the flimsy stage for coming up on two years, egad) on my FAL list. I am putting it first, and I intend to finish it once and for all.

2. Here is my RSC2019 main project, my Arrows quilt. I've made the last two arrow blocks, one in browns and one in blacks, so it's just a matter of sewing up the flimsy and quilting it.

3. This is the spin-off project from Arrows because I had to individually make the flying geese rather than using my favourite No Waste method. This will become a sweet little wallhanging I think.

4. Quilt up this runner for the October challenge for Island Batik. This one will get done first, probably within a day of posting my list, since I am hosting TGIFF this week!

5. Quilt up my second October challenge project for Island Batik. Yup, I was a keener this month. Blog readers who don't follow me on Instagram won't have seen this yet. You can follow me @mmmquilts Remember you don't need an Instagram account to follow accounts that are public, like mine. Fair warning: more rabbit holes, vortexes and squirrels!

6. Make a lap-sized quilt (there have been quite a few this year; have you noticed?!) using this collection I think... Would you believe I have not ever made a quilt with a jelly roll or 2.5" strips before. I've cut 2.5" strips to use in quilts like those in Pam and Nicky Lintott's precast books, but never used a roll. And I have, um, a few rolls in a Rubbermaid tub somewhere in storage while the renovations are happening.

We have to use a specialty tool of some kind, so any suggestions as to a tool for use with 2.5" strips is most welcome. I am thinking to try my HST die but not sure it will work since these are already cut to 2.5 and the die needs a bit either side of that... I have a few interesting rulers I haven't used much if at all.

7. This was on last quarter's list, and I plan to get it done this quarter, a lap-sized quilt for Brianne, who has actually okayed the fabrics and the pattern I intend to use! Yay!

8. I really really want to finish my 150 Canadian Women quilt. I have been asked to be the artist for the month once again at my local library for the month of January, and I would love to have it done to be a part of the display. It needs borders and then quilting.

 9. The December challenge project for Island Batik I plan to use these in a wallhanging that incorporates 3D elements.

10. My other 3D project idea is to make a top using the rayon we were given in our first box. I don't wear much red, but with Christmas in December, and upcoming winter vacation time, I think the top I have had in mind to make would work.

11. Demando Dayna requested indoor placemats, a set of four. I got her outdoor ones done last quarter.

 

12. This quilt for my nephew using these special items of clothing.

13. Once again, going to hopefully have this quilt finally done, one for my MacGyver.

14. I made one Bear Paw block as a test of the die and well, I liked it so much, I cut a bunch more pieces and have been sewing them as leader/enders to make a baby quilt to sell in my Etsy shop. I have three complete blocks and it seems like they've appeared magically! Not sure on the layout but maybe on point, maybe with a couple single paws here and there like my Bear Paw Dance aka Waltzing With Bears quilt.

15. Knit myself a toque using this yarn. It's the same as that I used to make Brady's last year. I plan to make the toque style rather than the beanie style. For those who are not Canadians, a toque is a knitted hat, a uniquely Canadian word, pronounced 'took' which rhymes with 'book' if you're British or Australian or a New Zealander, in other words, the long o as in boot.

This will keep me very busy, I know!
