This was literally a Drop Everything And Make it! as I got the request while we were on vacation in Florida in February. I received the fabric within a day or two of arriving home, and it was pedal to the metal from that moment on.
The line is a new one by Kanvas for Benartex from Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr of Modern Quilt Studio, "Dreamy". Isn't that rather an à propos name for a DrEAMi?!
I used:
Drift navy for the background
Galaxy coral for the pink stars
Shangri-La papaya for the print stars
Mirage aqua for the binding
and Shangri-La teal for the backing.
I get SUCH a rush going from this almost a year ago...
to this
to thisIt's another quilt that is constructed in columns.
As you know, I love layers in quilts: shadow quilts and interlocking designs.
This one uses just three fabrics, and sews up very quickly with 12" blocks and large background pieces.
When it came to piecing the backing, I saw that I could match the repeat...
Spot the seam! |
When it came to sewing that seam, I had two attempts at it:
Good thing I opened it up and double-checked that it was correct before I started cutting away the excess.😖
Tried again:
That's it! |
I had fun in the stars with ruler work and in the background with FMQ.
Ribbon candy in the outer 3" of the quilt edges to make a border. |
The stars got a Judi Madsen design I've used several times. The full pink ones show it off the best.
Here's the back:
on my new sewing room floor 😍 |
I like the pop of the binding the Mirage fabric gives. And the border/not border I made with the ribbon candy.
