After the success of the two custom orders for this quilted tote bag, I decided to make one for my Etsy shop, Sandra Jane Quilts. Once I got started, I couldn't stop until it was done. Well, full disclosure: I did stop to make the Project Quilting challenge.
Believe me when I tell you I want to keep this one for ME! It makes me just so very happy. Isn't it spring-like too?
I just love pulling fabrics to make these bags. This one gives me an extra thrill because it uses a 'vintage' gorgeous floral I bought more than a decade ago with the idea of a beautiful quilt back (and I still have enough left to do just that, maybe a smaller quilt though!). The thrill is that this gorgeous floral coordinates perfectly with the much newer Bonnie and Camille floral! You'd think they were the same line right? Not even the same fabric company. One is a Fabricland Vintage Collectibles (excellent quality) and the other is Moda.
This is a little more pink in tone, maybe because this shot was taken on a dull day. |
I used that gorgeous floral (I had to convince myself, gotta say) for the lining. The handles fabric is used for the inside pocket. I install a good quality sturdy magnetic snap to close the bag.
It all just coordinates so well if I do say so myself!
I box the bottom, 4" x 19.5" is the measurement, so it stands up nicely.
These bags are really a great size, and can hold a lot. I've taken mine on two plane trips as a carry-on. I put a double layer of batting in the handles and quadruple stitch them so they are sturdy and comfy!
The bag is for sale at Sandra Jane Quilts on Etsy, free shipping within Canada and also to the US! If you'd like to make one of your own, the pattern for it is included in my Positive Flow pattern.
I have another pull done from when I was pulling fabrics for Stephanie's bag for her to choose, so I may squeeze in (read: have another DrEAMi!) another to sell.
