I knew I needed an inner border before the yellow floral, and I settled on purple though I did consider navy again. I then considered the same snakeskin purple I'd used in the animal block round, but in keeping with the personal challenge to only use my scraps from my little boxes and plastic drawers of less than half a yard, I went to the purple scraps box looking for a deep purple. I didn't find anything that was about 6" x WOF, but one 5" wide piece of batik reminded me of the rollups that Island Batik would always send us in our ambassador boxes, so I pulled out the stack...

| Oh, they are sooo generous. These are leftovers! |
I found that I had two of the rollups still rolled up. Uh huh. Sitting on the IB shelf for five years.🤦🏻♀️ One of the mini shell chop you see on the right strips was in each of those rollups. This might work, I thought.
| I actually had three strips! One was within the stack, partially used. This shows you how the chops vary in colour and even shape, and that they aren't perfect since they're hand done. |
I set one of the shells chop and one of the deeper purple chop in place with the yellow floral, and stepped back.
Oh, those shells gave me a glimmer! They sparkled! I think the little hits of yellow get picked up even more with the yellow border fabric.
Now, I had planned on a 1" finished inner border, but that didn't make good use of a 5" x WOF strip, so I elected to do a ¾" finished which meant cut four strips at 1 ¼", multiplied by four equals 5". Perfect! Batiks are 45" and with my quilt being 43" four strips did it, as there is no selvage, just the finished edge. With the 3" yellow border my quilt finished at 50 ½". It makes me smile. It's not as beloved as last year's SAHRR but it is bright and cheery and I hope will give someone somewhere comfort.
Here is the original centre, four orphan blocks, two 10" and two 9" joined with the trellis fabric, an ancient one from Fabricland, one of their Vintage Collectibles lines.

Thanks so much Gail for dreaming up such a fun activity and hosting it each year with your gang of prompters. Looking forward to the final parade of finished quilts!

I love the batik inner border you found to use for this round; those spots of yellow really do sparkle! Success all around indeed. :)
