In the Shadow of the Plus in Modern Patchwork

I can finally write about my quilt which is in the current issue of Modern Patchwork! You can get your copy now in major stores and bookstores, or click the link in the sidebar to purchase online.

It started with my fifth design, back on February 10, that I drew in the second #30quiltdesignschallenge2018 I hosted on Instagram this past spring. The design got a ton of interest and likes, and I knew it was a good'un, so I removed it from Instagram. I played with it a bit and came up with the shadowed plus signs floating on a large background plus. I then decided to submit it to Modern Patchwork in early March, and it was accepted!

I Like/Love #19

1. I like rainbows. I really like rainbow quilts; they never get old to me. Here are my blocks for January to August in order.
I can't wait to find out September's colour. These are split 9-patch, four put together. I got the idea from Ariane of Ariane Quilts.

Moovin' On Up

This is the second quilt I made for Sarah's Hands2Help charity quilt drive at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. It's also my finished quilt for Roseanne's No Stress Sew Along at Home Sewn By Us. It's also on my Q3FAL list which is here!

The pattern is a free one off Sew Mama Sew and was one of Roseanne's three choices you could do for her SAL. It's designed by Alyssa of Pile o' Fabric. I had the flimsy done back in July, and the quilt in the first few days of August during my blog-cation.

The Great Outdoors Island Batik Blog Hop Week 4 & Giveaway

Wow, it's week 4 of the Island Batik blog hop, and I know my mind is reeling seeing all of the creativity in our circle. There is so much creativity, period, in QBL, aka Quilting Blog Land, isn't there? I've said all my life, too many books, not enough time, and that's is still oh SO TRUE, but now it also applies to quilts! And here we have give whole weeks, two to three posts per day of quilty inspiration and beautiful batiks! It's almost too much....na, one can never have too much quilty eye candy.
You will find the giveaway on Island Batik's blog, and giveaways at each of the bloggers' stops. My own is here!

DrEAMi! #19

Yikes! Nearly forgot about DrEAMi!; how can August be nearly over? But next Saturday is September 1...

Welcome to the 19th linky for those squirrelly distractions in your quilty life. No guilt here, just pure celebration of our quilter ADD natures right? I was thinking just now of how my DrEAMi! came from a DrEAMi! of Anja's, and so squirrels breed more squirrels, just like rabbits....

Does that make my DrEAMi! this month a squabbit?! 😂

That's 'our' bunny, a gorgeous, huge, clearly used-to-be-domestic rabbit we see quite often who lives on the side of the road by where we park to walk the Greenway. And that's a hind end of a black squirrel, common here in southwestern Ontario. I need to brush up my melding skills, ha!
Update:
Yay for Rose of Something Rose Made! My new art department...
Funny caption forthcoming. OMG be sure to check out the graphic on her DrEAMi! post!

Free Motion Fantasy Blog Hop and Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Free Motion Fantasy Blog Hop, showcasing Amanda Murphy's newly released line, Free Motion Fantasy. I was super-excited to be asked to participate in this hop; I love Amanda's style, her fabrics and her free-motion quilting prowess. Fabric that incorporates her beautiful FMQ? I'm in! Be sure to check out the link; betcha want 'em all! I know I did.
And just look at that fabric on the hop button.... Right?!!

I decided to sew up one of my designs I sketched while on an extended stay at my darling grandson Brady's house last summer. This fabric is perfection for this design, which I've made as a bed runner.

The Great Outdoors Blog Hop: Maple Leaf Rag and Giveaway

Years ago I learned to play that song on the piano, along with 'The Entertainer'. Sorry for any earworms (I have one myself now, urk!) I loved the beat of ragtime, still do. Scott Joplin could write some great jaunty little tunes! And Joanne of Canuck Quilter, sure can design some great patterns! This is one of hers. I thought the tumbling maple leaves rather jaunty, and the name just popped into my head. This quilt is on my Q3FAL List which is here.

You've had several sneak peeks of this quilt under construction, but I'd bet you had no idea how those maples leaves, and HSTs à la Postcard from Sweden would end up. Well, drum roll.....
Ta da! The quilt in a tree shot I'm known for in QBL. Yup, that's in a maple tree, a silver maple, in our neighbours' front yard. This is my stop on the Great Outdoors Blog Hop for Island Batik, and I am so glad you've stopped by! My line is Dear William (that link will take you to it). Thank you so much to Island Batik for these lush fabrics, to Hobbs Batting for the batting, and to Aurifil for the beautiful threads, all supplied to me in my box back in February! Come on in, and see the quilt in its entirety!

The Great Outdoors Island Batik Blog Hop Week 3

Are you ready for another round of beautiful batik fabrics, and inspiring projects to showcase them? I know I sure am! I am officially back from blog-cation. As with any vacation, it went in a flash and I did not get as much accomplished as I'd thought I would. Still, it was nice to have no pressure to write or even read blogs, and if I did read, to not leave comments. (gasp!) Who puts these pressures on anyhow? Moi...😲
My turn comes up Wednesday! See below for another sneak peek at the quilt's progression. Remember there is a fabulous giveaway on Island Batik's blog, as well as at each blogger's stop.

Clementine

Orange is the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge with Angela at soscrappy. One of the things I did over the past couple of weeks of blogging vacation was sew up my orange blocks.

Orange is not one of my go-to colours (sorry Anja) but man I do love it here! From the peach to the fiery intense oranges, I am happy with this block. Orange adds a little 'je ne sais quoi' to a quilt. Spice. Warmth. Mmmm! Smell! I will never forget the smell of a Florida orange grove in bloom, ahhh. We have a mock orange tree in our back yard here which smells heavenly! In fact, that's how I found it, my nose did!

I know I am on blog-cation but there are still some business duties that I must take care of because I am an Island Batik Ambassador, and a very proud one too!

My turn comes up in the third week of August, but this week I hope you will visit the wonderful creative people whose links are below. There are pretty sweet Island Batik giveaways all the hop long, and giveaways at most, if not all, the bloggers. Beothuk Star

This little quilt was more than a little demanding with her quilting. What I thought I could knock out by Sunday/Monday at the latest ended up taking me until Thursday evening! She is so worth it though. Let me present Beothuk Star. I hope you'll grab a java and read her story. I loved every moment of creating this quilt. She is #4 on my Q3 FAL List of ten items.

Throwback Thursday #8 Runners

Welcome to the August edition of Throwback Thursday! First, an important announcement: I am going to have a partner in sharing TBT. Andrée of Quilting and Learning - What a Combo! is going to be co-hosting with me beginning on the October edition. She'll host December as well.😍 I've got a couple of super-busy months in September and November, so this will ease the pressure, and it's always fun to share! Like me, or moi 😉, Andrée, is Canadian, a lover of learning, and a teacher.

Runners, like cushion covers, are fast and satisfying makes. Here are two I made for my mum.

The bottom one was made in 2000, and the top one in 2004.
