Centred QAL: Cutting Instructions

Welcome to Step 2 of this year's QAL where we get to cut into our strips, or our yardage, if we haven't cut into it yet.
If you are here for the first time, you can find all the information you need on the Main Page. If you missed last week's yardage requirements, the link to that post is on the main page. As for prizes, there are ten sponsors for this year's quilt along: fabric, ezine, and patterns galore!

All right, without further ado, unusual for me I know, here we go.

First of all, here is another shot of the original quilt for reference purposes:
I will refer to the colours, as I did in the fabric requirements post, by light blue, medium blue (feathers) and dark blue. The bright blue is the 'bars' on either side of the centre light blue squares. There is also white in the quilt.

Be sure to cut in the order given. All strips are width of fabric (WOF).

Light Blue
From four 2 1/2" strips, cut (16) 7 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles (5 per strip); from three 2 1/2" strips, cut (15) 8 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles (5 per strip); cut a 16th 8 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangle from the leftover strip of the 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles; do not cut the one remaining 2 1/2" strip yet.

Medium Blue
From three 2 1/2" strips, cut (16) 5 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles (7 per strip); from two 2 1/2" strips, cut (16) 4 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles (9 per strip)

Dark Blue
From three 2 1/2" strips, cut (12) 9 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles (4 per strip)
From three 1 1/2" strips, cut (12) 10 1/2 x 1 1/2" rectangles (4 per strip); from six 1 1/2" strips, cut (32) 6 1/2 x 1 1/2" rectangles (6 per strip); from three 1 1/2" strips, cut (32) 3 1/2 x 1 1/2" rectangles (12 per strip)

Bright Blue
Do not cut this 1 1/2" strip yet.

White
From one 2 1/2" strips, cut (4) 9 1/2 x 2 1/2" rectangles
From one 1 1/2" strips, cut (4) 10 1/2 x 1 1/2" rectangles

Binding
Cut (5) 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" strips.

Once again, if you have any questions, ask them in the comments and I can reply within the post if it helps to clarify something.

Pure Joy
Before hitting 'Schedule' so that this post publishes while I'm in Lala-Land sleeping, I checked my Gmail. Well, I got the most lovely email from Yvonne, who fell in love with Smooches, the quilt for which I did a guest appearance on Sarah's blog last Sunday. Yvonne lives just outside of Toronto, and blogs at Sew Yummy. Here is her glorious quilt!
Doesn't that just make you burst out in a big smile? I am so very glad she made it, and in such gorgeous colours, and perfect border fabric! The background is dots, or spots, as my friend, Helen, of Midget Gem calls them, (and loves them). My own has just two blocks left to make, and I have had a hard time not just making them but staying focused on the Storm at Sea quilt. Watch for a finish post later today!
Happy cutting!

  7. Hi Sandra! Oh boy, I guess we have to decide on our colors now that we have cutting instructions. EEK. How fabulously cool that Yvonne sent you a photo of her quilt top. That was quick and definitely inspired sewing. Fabulous. It sure makes me want to make a Smooches quilt myself. Get in line, I say. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Ideas are swirling for my version of your Centered QAL quilt. Hoping to get started on it as soon as I finish my niece's baby quilt. Warning! A color change may be in the works.

I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, as they make my day! I answer every one by personal email. :-) Unless... you are a "no-reply" blogger, which can occur for a few reasons. You can get around that by writing out your email within your comment so that I can answer you.
