Dark Blue Scraps Sorting Box and OMG

This was my OMG for July, but I didn't get it done until yesterday: make a dark blue scraps sorting box.
Still, it is done and in use, and probably my favourite one yet!

I sewed it as I've done the other boxes, as leaders and enders while I'm sewing other projects. I love the handle! The tutorial is by Angela at soscrappy.
Cute Laurel Burch kitties peeking at me. Do you notice the two blue words? Blue on the left, vertically, and cobalt in the piece above the one with the handle.

I used that same Laurel Burch fabric for most of the lining; I didn't have quite enough for a bottom, but that's okay because it's always hidden under the scraps, and the blue with gold 'Chiclets' I did use coordinates so well. Here's the view from the back side:
Love it when I can use leftovers HSTs in these boxes.

A long side with another word: midnight. I used a couple of other blues and a couple of greens for a pop here and there.
More leftover HSTs and two leftover HRTs!

The other long side. Another blue word is here: 'royal'. Old, or vintage fabrics, alongside brand new. Love. I used Connecting Threads Persian Blue Essential thread 50 weight (affiliate link) 100% cotton to quilt the box, in the top as well as in the bobbin. It's a great thread. I've used it on my Bernina, my Featherweight, and my longarm, all with excellent results. I buy these too, so you're getting my honest opinion!

Here is the bottom. A couple of boxes ago, I hit upon the idea of making a scrappy quilted bottom as well instead of just fabric with foam or cardboard for strength. Uses more scraps!

Here they are, all squished together on my temporary sewing table. I just love the rainbow!
If you notice some odd non-scraps items inside the boxes, it's for Bella-proofing them. She has several kitty perches and snugglies, do not worry!

So for my August OMG, I'd like to make another scraps box. I have a creams and whites one started, but I've had a request for a pink one...

Gosh! I nearly forgot! I closed the comments on Sunday night on my Shine post. There were 30. Random number generator picked 5, which was Michelle Peet from Scotland. 😊 I've already contacted her and sent it to her. She was really pleased. Thank you to all who left comments on that post.
Shine is available in my Etsy shop! Check out Rose's Instagram post of her version. I love this; I knew it wasn't solely a Christmas quilt.

  1. That is really a neat and colorful scrap system! Love all the different blues in your sorting box. Currently, I'm using Sterlite containers, rolling drawers, part of the table, and even the clear plastic zipped bag a comforter came in. Talk about a hodgepodge, lol.

  2. Great scrappy scrap bin, Sandra! And what a fun view of all of your bins lined up there. Love it!

  3. I, too, make scrap totes out of the scraps themselves. Easy to find the desired tote of scraps. Besides using up some scraps, those totes make me smile! Liz in Houston

  4. How you manage to sneak in making another bin between all your projects is beyond me, but that blue bin is a great make! Bella proofing - ha - I get it! That little row is just so happy there on your table! Great finish, Sandra!

  7. I love the kitties peeking out on the handle. And it is fun to use up an odd pinwheel or HRT here and there. I giggled at your reference to Bella proofing. I did the same, only my Bella was a curious 3 year old great granddaughter! She and her family have moved away. I miss, “ whatcha doin’, Gamma.?”

  8. So fun! You will have to turn each box around occasionally so you see all the pretty scrapiness of each side!

  9. Love those blue kitties. I never seem to see anything like that here in Scotland, or on the net. I've been desperately trying to organise my scraps. I use boxes, with lids, from The Really Useful Box company; which I believe is a British company. Their boxes are nice and sturdy and not very expensive; which is a good thing when you have to buy thirteen of them!

  12. Hi Sandra! I love, Love, LOVE these scrappy scrap boxes. You have the whole rainbow now, don't you? Or maybe a black and a white one is needed. Hmm, I didn't see a post about Rose's version of Shine. I'm going to go see if I messed that. I think Shine would look beautiful in many different color palettes. ~smile~ Roseanne

  13. I love this, but you already know how much I love them. I loved Rose’s version of Shine, too. Happy day when another project is done!

  14. I believe I've stopped in on one of your other scrap box posts. I just love this idea and might think about doing it myself. I only say might as I already have 50 other projects going.

  15. I think your dark blue basket might be my favorite yet! All those deep blues are so rich. Too funny that you have to Bella-proof them :)
