Clementine

Orange is the colour of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge with Angela at soscrappy. One of the things I did over the past couple of weeks of blogging vacation was sew up my orange blocks.

Orange is not one of my go-to colours (sorry Anja) but man I do love it here! From the peach to the fiery intense oranges, I am happy with this block. Orange adds a little 'je ne sais quoi' to a quilt. Spice. Warmth. Mmmm! Smell! I will never forget the smell of a Florida orange grove in bloom, ahhh. We have a mock orange tree in our back yard here which smells heavenly! In fact, that's how I found it, my nose did!
Here are all my RSC blocks together so far!

Makes me happy!

One thing I do not have, is any orange Tula Pink prints for the #100days100blocks2018 challenge on Instagram that I'm in. So, a few blocks back, I pulled out my orange ziploc bag and there was the Grunge leftovers from Aidan's quilt, Radiance. I used them again to make today's block, #43, along with a scraps of a sewing-theme orange print I picked up a couple of years ago:

I'm glad I joined in this year with the challenge: sewing with friends, virtual and real, is so much better, the challenge of keeping up is good for me, meeting new people through this is wonderful, being amazed by some of the masterful fussy-cutting/piecing is inspiring, and the end result will be a quilt! No! TWO quilts! I'm doing two of each block. The idea was for a quilt for each daughter, but daughter #1 does not like quilts (I am CRUSHED typing that, like how) so I guess it will be for our bed. I'm undecided as to whether I do the Gridlock or the City Planner layout. Maybe one of each?

There is orange in my quilt for The Great Outdoors Blog Hop on right now, showcasing newly-released collections from Island Batik. There are over 40 giveaways, at least one per blogger and Island Batik's itself. My turn is this coming Wednesday. The quilt is done and on Avril. Cannot wait to show you. You'll get another sneak peek on Monday. Here is last week's in case you missed it:
My collection is Dear William

One last thing and it involves orange!
This is the cover for the current issue of Modern Patchwork, inside of which is a quilt I designed and made! It's not orange though...

You can purchase a copy of the magazine at The Quilting Company.  I'll be writing a post on the quilt next week when I am fully back (this is just a pop-in post, ha) on the quilt. I was interviewed yesterday by Paintbrush Studio Fabrics (I can't believe I just wrote that sentence, nor that it happened, but it DID!) and you can read the interview here. There you'll find another shot of the quilt-in-progress. 🙌

Remember all month long you can try bluprint, Craftsy's new platform for their Netflix-style classes to watch. Affiliate links below. More on what I've been watching the past couple of weeks once I'm fully back. I've opened comments today, but please forgive me if I don't respond for a few days, as technically I'm not back until Monday.

  5. Your daughter doesn't like quilts? What does that even mean?????? Haha - well, then you will have a gorgeous new quilt on your bed.
Really like the RSC project with those low volume bits making up the background. Very nice!

  7. Just yesterday I was thinking about you and remembered you were on break. Still, I was missing your posts, so thanks for the pop up! Love those orange blocks, because you know I love orange! Your daughter may come around in time; we'll just assume her quilting gene is in a mutant stage right now. Haha! In the meantime, you get to enjoy that quilt on your bed. Can't wait to see your IB quilt!

  9. So pleased for you and another Plus Shadow quilt. I was so pleased to see it in my feed the other day on the magazine’s website. And, by the way, this one is gorgeous too! I love the way your blocks are turning out, too. Binindg my Outdoors quilt today and binding came (well fabric) for my plus quilt so both will be done this week.

  13. Welcome back from your bloggy break! I hope you are rested, rejuvenated, and refreshed :)

It's very interesting to me how saturated and gorgeous your orange scraps are, for someone who claims to not love orange, ha!

  14. The RSC blocks are stunning together, and the paler fabric a great contrast to show each colour by itself, and them all together. The Island Batik?? Looking wonderful out there on the table.

  16. I am not a fan of orange either, but I do like your blocks. In a sewing group I used to be in we had to pick two colored pens from a bag and had to make our blocks of the month from those two colors with any neutrals. I got orange and pink!! I still have those blocks, but have not put them together. Making them did change my mind somewhat about orange though. I love your new modern plus quilt and congratulations on the publish!! That is awesome - as well as the interview!! Oh, and cannot forget about the IB blocks - love that fabric especially the pops of purple and darker green in there!! Beautiful!

    1. Hi Kimberly, you are a no-reply blogger so I do hope you check back here. If you mean the pattern for my RSC blocks it's a split 9-patch. There are four put together, and rotated, per block. I treat each one as an entire block however for construction purposes. If you mean my quilt in Modern Patchwork, it's called 'In the Shadow of the Plus'.

  22. Oh. My. Goodness! Sandra, for a 'pop in' post, it was full of lots of Quilty goodness! Congratulations on your successes! You are very deserving and I’m so glad you are getting such recognition. (Don’t forget about us little guys ;) on your way to the top.)
